Olivia Wilde has revealed that she “had to cut” s*xy scenes from the ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ trailer. Wilde, who directed and stars in the film, admitted that footage was removed from the trailer “at the last minute” and noted that we continue to live in a “really puritanical society”.

“There’s a lot that needed to be removed from the trailer,” Wilde told the Associated Press. ” I had to cut out some footage. The MPA came down hard on me at the last second and I was upset about it because I thought they were taking it up a notch. But of course, we still live in a really puritanical society.” “

 

“I think the lack of seduction in American films is something new,” she added. “Then in terms of female pleasure, that’s something we don’t see very often unless you’re talking about queer cinema. You know, it’s interesting because, in a lot of queer films, female characters can have more pleasure.”

Wilde stated that she wanted the film to be “provocative”. “Viewers are not as puritanical as corporations think they are,” she said. “And yet people get angry. I mean, people are already upset with me about it. I think that speaks to the film. We want to be provocative. It’s not about making you feel safe.”

The film, which is slated to hit theaters on September 23, has already faced controversy and continues to make headlines.

After casting Shia LaBeouf in the lead role, the actor left the film and was replaced by Harry Styles. Recently, Wilde seemingly said that LaBeouf was indeed fired. LaBeouf responded via email to Variety that he was, in fact, done with the film.

In emails shared with the release, LaBeouf wrote to Wilde: “You and I both know the reasons for my departure. I left your film because you’re actors and I could not find time to rehearse.”

The casting drama didn’t end there. During and after filming, there were reports that lead actress Florence Pugh was unhappy with Wilde’s budding romantic relationship with Styles.

Pugh has never commented on the rumors. Wilde just wants people to go see the movie. “Every filmmaker wants people to see their film,” she told The Associated Press. “That’s all you want people to see. If people are excited for some reason, you hope that gets them in the door.”

“Whether you’re a 1950s car fanatic and that’s what brings you to this movie, or if you’re just going because you’re a fan of our incredible cast, all I care about is that you get to see it. and I hope people will then have the instinct to share it,” added Wilde. “I really hope people see it again. I think it’s a real second-watch movie. There’s a lot of Easter eggs.”
