Design

Sennheiser completely changed its design for the Momentum 4 from what it had used since the first model. The earcups on the primarily plastic Momentum 4 can now be folded flat for storage or hanging around your neck.

Before docking them in their carrying case, the headphones no longer fold in on themselves. Instead, the headband is wrapped in woven fabric on the outside. The earpads are still made of softer leather with lots of padding.

Swiveling hinges provide some flexibility for positioning the headphones on the head, and a slider adjustment is provided on the headband. Additionally, wider than usual, the headband relieves pressure on the head.

To turn the device on or off, there is only one button on the right earcup. Instead, touch controls to control playback, calls, and voice assistants on the right earcup.

Sound Quality

The Momentum 4 Wireless can sound slightly reserved and inward-looking at low volume levels. But as seems to be the case with many wireless headphones, turning up the volume makes them more outward-looking. The Sennheisers sound poised and precise once the volume is found.

The Momentum 4 Wireless are tuned to provide music with high levels of clarity and detail while adopting a neutral tone and expansive soundstage that is marginally wider and taller than the WH-1000XM4.

Features

The Momentum 4’s settings can all be accessed through Sennheiser’s Smart Control app, just like with other recent audio equipment from the company. Here, dedicated EQ sliders for the bass, midrange, and treble allow you to adjust the sound and save any customization you like as a preset.

Sennheiser provides a call-related tool called Sidetone. You can hear a portion of your voice through a slider, which causes you to yell during conversations. It’s not an all-or-nothing setting because you can adjust it between 0 and 100 percent.
