The BoseQuietComfort Earbuds are only the company’s second true wireless model. The original Bose SoundSport Free lacked the noise cancellation that made Bose a household name on every train or plane.
Bose announced the release of its new QuietComfort Earbuds in September 2020, and the earphones went on sale in early October. They cost $279 / £249 / AU$399 at launch, comparable to the Sony WF-1000XM3’s launch price.
Design
Unlike the SoundSport Free, which has a chunky design, the Bose QC ‘Buds have a much sleeker appearance. It has a similar aesthetic to the Bose 700 over-ears, but the in-ear headphones aren’t small.
Each ‘Bud measures 3.9cm x 2.6cm x 2.7cm and weighs 8.9g, making it almost as large as the Sony WF-1000XM3 and sticking out of the ear just as much.
However, there’s no denying the high quality of their construction. The buds are made of many of the same high-end composite plastics used to make the brand’s previous sporty wireless earbuds, the SoundSport Free, which were extremely durable and built to make beats.

Performance
Because of the excellent noise cancellation on these ‘Buds, you can truly enjoy your favorite tunes without being disturbed by anything else around you. In addition, the ‘Buds, like other QC-branded headphones, have an excellent soundstage.
Keep the buds at maximum volume if you prefer complete silence during office hours or when binge-watching YouTube videos (10). This setting does an excellent job of blocking out ambient noise across the entire frequency spectrum.
Bose’s audio isn’t as bass-heavy as Sony’s, but it has a great frequency balance. In addition, Bose’s Active EQ technology automatically boosts bass or treble based on volume levels, ensuring that music sounds dynamic at any volume, with highs never sounding sharp or shrill and lows thrumming pleasantly. As a result, the audio is always balanced and enjoyable.
Battery Life
The Bose QC Buds have a battery life of up to six hours. That may not seem like much, but remember that true wireless headphones with more features do not have ANC. So if you’re short on time, a 15-minute quick charge should last you a couple of hours, and you can charge it with the included USB-C cable or any Qi-certified wireless charging mat.
On the other hand, the case is underwhelming, with only 12 hours of additional battery life available, though it does have a quick charge feature that will give you two hours of listening time after a 15-minute stint on the cradles.
Features
That excellent noise-cancellation allows the Bose’s superb sound quality to shine. Simply putting the QC Buds in your ear achieves a high level of passive noise cancellation, but turning it up to level 10 blocks almost everything except high-frequency sounds.
The QuietComfort Earbuds are unquestionably the best wireless earbuds for phone calls and video chats.
