According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Viola Davis has joined the cast of The Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Geeks Vibes Nation mentioned her name on Twitter in June as a prospective contender for the part of Dr. Volumnia Gaul. In the original novel, the doctor is the principal antagonist of Panem.

Davis will play Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the main game creator for the tenth Hunger Games, according to the article.

She joins Rachel Zegler as the heroine Lucy Gray Baird from the impoverished District 12 and Tom Blyth as the young Coriolanus Snow. Some of the cast members are Josh Andres Rivera, Peter Dinklage, and Hunter Schafer.

Other cast members include Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Josh Andrés Rivera, Peter Dinklage, and Hunter Schafer. After directing the previous four films, Francis Lawrence returns to direct this one.

The summary for the prequel reads: “Coriolanus Snow, 18 years old, is the final hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol.

With the tenth annual Hunger Games rapidly approaching, Snow is concerned when he is assigned to teach Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute from poor District 12.

Snow believes he can swing the odds in his favor after Lucy Gray grabs all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing at the reaping ritual. Snow and Lucy’s fight against time to live will finally expose who is a songbird and who is a serpent, as they combine their instincts for theatrics and newfound political knowledge.”

Francis Lawrence, who directed three of the four Hunger Games films and will also act as producer, is back in command, along with series producer Nina Jacobson and her partner Brad Simpson.

Executive producers include Tim Palen and Suzanne Collins, creator of The Hunger Games. Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are the studio’s directors.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be released in theatres in November 2023.
