The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5: Release Date, Trailer, And More

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 is about to begin, and Hulu has just released the first trailer(which opens in a new tab) for the dystopian thriller. Following the assassination of Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), the teaser (which you can see below) sets up a conflict between June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) and Serena Waterford.

Who Will Be In The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 cast?

Even though June has already fled to Canada, Gilead is not exactly the safest place to be, thus no one in the cast is automatically safe.

However, if the majority of the main characters do return, it seems that all of the following characters will feature in The Handmaid’s Tale season five:

Release date of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5

Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale will premiere on September 14 in the US, according to Hulu. The dates for the release in other countries are not yet known. Season 5 will begin with a two-episode debut before fresh episodes are uploaded once a week on Hulu.

A whole season trailer has been made available on Hulu. Beginning with June and Luke in Canada, dealing with the repercussions of Commander Waterford’s murder. Gilead forewarns June that they won’t allow her to get away with the crime.

Season 5’s official logline is as follows: “While attempting to rediscover her identity and mission, June must deal with the repercussions of murdering Commander Waterford. As Gilead’s influence spreads to Canada, the widowed Serena tries to increase her reputation in Toronto.

Commander Lawrence collaborates with Aunt Lydia in his efforts to elevate Gilead and bring about change. As they continue their quest to find and rescue Hannah, June, Luke, and Moira engage Gilead from a distance.”

Samira Wiley, who plays Moira, said on The View (opens in new tab): “Really, we’re taking up just where we left off. Anyone who saw the season finale is aware of what transpired around Commander Waterford. As a result, June is having some issues, as usual.” As she figures out how to take Gilead down from there, June will still be in Canada in the upcoming season, she said.

On TVLine (opens in new tab), Moss said: “I would admit that the season as a whole has been maybe one of our crazier experiences. There have undoubtedly been seasons when a lot has happened. Not as much occurs during certain seasons. [Season 5] is nearly too much for me to handle. And it’s not just talking. I mean it when I say that there is so much action going on that I nearly can’t keep up.”

The Testaments, the follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, will also be drawing nearer. The novel, which is set ten years after the first book, will be adapted, according to Hulu. Jordan Helman, the head of scripted originals at Hulu, has already discussed how it would be connected to The Handmaid’s Tale. The beginning of The Testaments on Hulu and the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale are connected, he told Deadline.
