Idris Elba admits he’s tired of being asked about James Bond

Idris Elba’s name has been brought up in almost every discussion about casting for James Bond over the last several years, and he is well aware of this fact.

The Luther alum is tired of having to answer the same questions every time he speaks in public, even though there is a large number of people who would support the idea of the massively talented and hugely popular star throwing on the tux, sipping on a shaken-not-stirred martini, and indulging in some international espionage.

In addition, the Luther alum has grown weary of having to face the same questions.

He responded to the line of 007 questions once again to stress how uninspired and unoriginal he believes it has become. Ironically, he stated his discontent with the incessant cavalcade of Bond conversation during an interview with Marc Maron.

What Idris Elba says

“I am at a loss for more responses to it. I usually simply respond by saying, “Oh, don’t ask me that.” Because most of the time, it represents sloppy journalism. People also attempt to utilize it as clickbait by asking questions such as “what’s he going to say this time?” I make an effort to always say the same things.

Every so often, I’ll just tease them, but every so often, I’ll give them some philosophy on why I don’t want to do it or why it’s a rumor. Sometimes, I’ll just tease them. But nowadays I try to avoid talking about it as much as possible.

Idris Elba will turn 50 later this year, and the most recent rumors indicate that Eon Productions will be casting an actor in their 30s for the next iteration of cinema’s most famous secret agent, so it won’t be long until Elba will be able to unwind and sleep soundly in the knowledge that he will no longer be required to field the perennial questions about his status as a candidate.
