Oppo Reno 8 Pro: Oppo’s Reno series has traditionally been marketed and recognized for one major feature – photography.

As a result, the Reno series has produced a number of phones over the years that have primarily focused on camera performance while being average in other areas, typically powered by a mid-range chip. The new Oppo Reno 8 Pro, on the other hand, takes a unique approach.

Design

The Oppo Reno 8 Pro design made a good first impression, especially compared to other smartphones in this price range. It’s not too thin, but just right, with the thinnest point measuring 7.34mm.

The phone is extremely slippery if given a chance and will slide across any smooth surface.

The positioning of the cameras is what distinguishes the Reno 8 Pro’s design. The cutouts are flush with the raised camera module, which is an extension of the rear glass panel.

The gentle curve around the camera module also allowed me to rest my index finger beneath it, providing additional grip and making it easier to use the phone with one hand.

Performance

The phone performed as expected in benchmark tests. The Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G scored 7,28,119 points in AnTuTu and 901 points in Geekbench’s single and multi-core tests, respectively. Graphics performance was also comparable to the competition.

The in-display fingerprint sensor was always quick and accurate, the stereo speakers were well-balanced, and the audio output was loud and rich.

Cameras

There are three rear cameras on the Reno 8 Pro 5G. A 50-megapixel primary camera (Sony IMX766 sensor, no OIS), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2-megapixel macro camera are included. In addition, a 32-megapixel camera with autofocus handles self-portraits.

In daylight, selfies appeared sharp and detailed, with a wide dynamic range. Selfie portraits were also sharp, but the phone’s ability to expose backgrounds was lacking. Images looked good in low light as long as there was a light source nearby.

The macro camera appears to be there simply to fill up the spec sheet, as it was difficult to capture usable photos due to the fixed-focus system. However, in dimly lit cityscapes, the camera’s Night mode can capture details that I couldn’t see with my own eyes.

Battery Life

The phone comes with a 4,500mAh battery that easily powered me through an entire day without breaking a sweat. The 80W fast charging is the cherry on top here, charging the phone halfway in about 15 minutes, with a full charge taking another 15-20 minutes depending on usage.
