OPPO A96: Price, Design, Battery Life, and Much More

OPPO isn’t short on great smartphones at such a reasonable price for most people. In many ways, they want to push the boundaries even on low-cost devices to improve the experience. This is the case with a device such as the OPPO A96.

However, if you’re not interested in the camera or running high-intensity apps and games, the OPPO A96 is an excellent phone for the price. The OPPO A96 is now available for purchase and costs A$399 RRP.

Design

Despite its low price, the OPPO A96 looks great and comes in two colors: Sunset Blue and Starry Black. The Starry Black is my review unit, which you can see here. It has a sleek appearance and feels good in my hand. According to OPPO, the phone’s back is also scratch-resistant, which sounds great – especially if you don’t intend to use a case.

Another plus is that the rear cover is scratch-resistant, which is ideal for those who travel frequently. Naturally, when you use it, the rear cover should not collect any marks or fingerprints. This is fine if you don’t want to spend money on phone cases to protect your phone from scratches, and the package includes a rubber case.

Cameras

The OPPO A96 features a 50MP main camera on the back, a 2MP bokeh camera, and a 16MP selfie camera (front). However, there is no wide-angle camera lens or optical zoom available here. Portrait mode, OPPO’s AI, which can automatically enhance your shots, and other tricks like Panorama and Timelapse shooting are available.

However, when taking night shots or shots in dim lighting, the cameras struggle to keep up and produce grainy images. Even in camera previews, images look a little off in terms of quality, so you’re better off using the flash to get better results.

Battery Life

The OPPO A96 has impressive battery life. The 5,000mAh battery inside keeps the device running for about a day and a half with normal use.

Even if you play too much, you should be able to keep the device running for at least half a day. As previously stated, this is also dependent on the refresh rate and frame rate at which you are playing some games.

Other Features

The OPPO A96 will gladly accept your tasks and perform admirably — whether you game or watch a lot. For those who enjoy gaming, this smartphone includes game optimization features within ColorOS that allow you to focus in-game without distractions.

Most people will be satisfied with the OPPO A96’s specifications and user experience. If all you need is a phone for texting and browsing the internet, this phone will serve you well.

Unfortunately, because it costs RM1299, it faces stiff competition in the smartphone market. This is due to the availability of alternatives that provide comparable or better performance for comparable prices.
