Design
The OnePlus Buds Z2 has a similar design to the OnePlus Bullets. It has the same chunky shape that mysteriously works for some people’s ears and the CD pattern associated with older-generation Bullets and previous-generation Buds Z.
The earbuds are water and dust resistant to IP55, making them an excellent fitness or travel companion. With an IPX4 rating, even the charging case can withstand light water splashes.

Compared to the original OnePlus Buds Z, OnePlus has significantly improved the onboard touch controls. For example, you can now fully customize how each number of taps on either earbud controls music playback or the voice assistant. Furthermore, pressing and holding either earbud for one second now toggles between noise canceling and transparency modes, while pressing for three seconds pairs the earbuds to another device.
Performance
The OnePlus Buds Z2 uses the same 11mm drivers as the Buds Pro, which will be available in late summer 2021. However, they are not tuned in the same way, which is a significant distinction. Nevertheless, this OnePlus headset provides an impressive amount of noise reduction for the price.
A good fit from the silicone ear tips results in a 30dB noise reduction of around 3kHz. Turning on ANC to maximum provides 20dB of noise reduction in low frequencies, such as the rumble of an airplane engine, and makes them one-quarter as loud as they would be without the buds.

With ANC turned off, the OnePlus Buds Z2 has a total listening time of 38 hours. Each bud is powered by a 40mAh battery, while a 520mAh battery powers the charging case. Fast charging is also available, with a 10-minute charge claiming to provide 5 hours of listening time or approximately one full charge for the earpieces.
Software and Features
The OnePlus Buds Z2 includes the Hey Melody app, which is available for Android and iOS. If you have a OnePlus phone, the integration is built into the firmware. However, a few features are only available if you pair the Buds Z2 with a OnePlus smartphone.
