Taapsee Pannu: I set goals that are not based on industry trends or competition

Published by

It’s a difficult proposition to lead a life in showbiz insulated from hits and misses, trolls, business commentary, and so on. Taapsee Pannu, who recently sat with Shabaash Mithu, is one of those artists who rarely gets swayed by the end results of her films, trolling, policing, and comments of any kind.

The actress, who has moved on to shoot Dunki with Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, believes that she should focus on her work rather than the constant chatter.

When asked about working with blinkers on, Taapsee says, “I work with blinkers on. I never try to look at where I am compared to my contemporaries. It never takes up space in my mind. Instead, I use my energy and channel my thoughts to improve my craft and sharpen my senses.”

“Physically and mentally I choose to stay away from competition or even talk about it. The insecurity of being left or feeling irrelevant doesn’t even cross my mind. I’ve come to terms with being in a race where I’m a solo runner.”

After each lap, I compete against my own time. This is why I work so tirelessly and don’t look at what works and what doesn’t work. I’m just doing my job and doing it to the best of my ability. You will never get very far if you keep looking at what others are doing or not doing. I do not! I only improve my performance and set goals that are not based on industry trends or business competition. It keeps my energy in place, my thoughts aligned, and everything else in order.”

Talking about her long list of upcoming projects, Taapsee says, “I really liked the films I agreed to do and I didn’t want to let them go. I don’t even get paid for some of my films. I’m just asking about percentages. It’s the least I can do to make a good movie see the light of day. Anurag and I have done good work in the past.

With Dobaara, we explored a supernatural and sci-fi space that is different from what Anurag is known for. I am looking forward to this film and how it has been received. It’s something new for me too. There is Ajay Bahla’s Blur, which we produced, and Woh Ladki Hai Kahan, both of which are shot and ready. I think it’s time to achieve new goals.”
