While some have tried to use computer game technologies for animations earlier, including Unity or Unreal Engine, Reel FX is the first one to establish a unique production animation pipeline that visualizes and renders every element of the show using the Unreal Game Engine.

Reel FX’s inventive use of the gaming engine, which combines live-action methods with existing tools, makes animation more accessible.

In the video, Andrew discusses the revelation that drove him to explore virtual production and the real-time capabilities provided by Unreal. “There’s got to be a way to combine the real-time taste of producing the movie in live-action with the flexibility that I have in animation,” he adds.

Unreal Engine’s ability to generate figures in real-time enables a live-action technique for animation. This allows the directors to view both the actors and the anime sprites at the very same time, allowing them to improvise and encourage innovation without slowing down the animating process.

Unreal Engine is holding “The Animation Fellowship” today to show how its gaming engine’s true technology is transforming the animation business.

On Wednesday, Reel FX will take over all the Epic Games booths at Mifa, providing live, legitimate time demonstrations of the digital production processes utilized in Super Giant Robot Brothers!

These occurrences will ultimately result in an Annecy panel titled “Epic Games Presents: Animating in Unreal,” where panelists Elizabeth Ito (City of Ghosts), Mark Andrews (Super Giant Robot Brothers! ), Brad Lewis (How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World), and Adam Valdez (Prehistoric Planet) will discuss their approaches to recreating in Unreal Engine.
