“They were going to choose him [for the role of Damon Salvatore],” Dobrev, said on Jessica Szohr’s “XOXO” podcast on Wednesday, June 29. “They didn’t choose him, but I got cast.” Then things got awkward.”
The Bulgarian native revealed that the relationship ended abruptly shortly after she got the part. “We split up,” she admitted.

Bad boy brooding Damon Salvatore was eventually played by Ian Somerhalder, with whom Dobrev was romantically involved from 2010 to 2013. Despite their divorce, the Then Came You actress (who has been dating Shaun White since 2020) and Pulse star (who has been married to Nikki Reed since 2015) have remained friends and even played love interests on-screen.

Both Somerhalder and Reed,  addressed their friendly relationship with Dobrev two years prior, noting how damaging rumors of drama between the two women can be to read.

The Twilight star posted a photo of the three of them smiling on Instagram, and the V-Wars alum reposted it on his own, urging fans to “stop spreading hate everywhere,” adding, “there’s already too much of that right now in our world.”

Dobrev and White, began dating in February 2020 after fans noticed they had shared similar photos from a trip to South Africa. They were photographed together for the first time one month later while on a bike ride in Malibu.
