Premise

The TV series is a fictional adaptation of Adam Kay’s book This Is Going To Hurt. The story takes place in London in 2006, it focuses on a group of junior doctors working in a busy obstetrics and gynecology ward located in an NHS hospital.

It has frank and shocking honesty in the portrait of working in obstetrics and gynecology. It totally describes the emotional effects on its staff working in a hospital environment.

It also explores the lack of support for junior doctors and how their achievements are unsung. The personal lives of the junior doctors are also shown throughout the episodes.

About Adam Kay’s Memoir

This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor, A Nonfiction Book by British Author Adam Kay was published in 2017 by Picador. It is an assemblage of diary entries written by Adam Kay during his medical training from 2004 to 2010.

Kay’s book talks about political issues faced in the health care system of the National Health Service in the United Kingdom and societal conflicts between the general population and neglected doctors.

Kay accomplishes this by incorporating his comedy writing skills into his personal story that depicts his life as he progresses through his medical training and his eventual resignation from this career
