Sriya Lenka Becomes First Indian K-pop Star, will be joining other members soon

Sriya Lenka was born on September 15 2003 in Rourkela, Odisha. She has been trained in Hindustani classical music and trained herself in western music by watching online music videos. She has been trained even in dance. She was born to Priyathama and Abinash Lenka. 

She won many awards in a dance competition. Her parents were very encouraging and encouraged her to persuade her dance career.

After one of her friends showed her the song ‘Growl’ by the K-pop boyband Exo she was interested in K-pop. She fell in love with K-pop. She learned about PSY, Rania, BTS, and Blackpink and took them as inspiration and wanted to become one like them.

In 2021, one of her friends suggested to apply for K-pop auditions online. Her first auditions happened during the time of lockdown in India. Though she was not selected for the auditions she received positive responses. She would be the third person from India to become a K-pop idol in case she is selected to become a member of Blackswan. 

18-year-old has recently joined the South Korean group Blackswan, soon she will be joining the group she will be joining with her new partner Gabi Dalcin from Brazil. They both were trained for a couple of months under the label DR Music.  

After Hyeme decided to step off from the band, the group decided to conduct a global audition and find a new member. Sriya and Dalcin were selected from over 4,000 participants, they are now being trained in Seoul.

They announced it on the Band’s official Instagram handle writing, “Sriya and Gabi were finally selected as members of Blackswan after participating the global audition program for last 6 months. With their debut, we will be back with the new Blackswan,” 

The other members of the band include Youngheun, Fatou, Judy, and Leia. Earlier the band was called RANIA as they made their debut in 2011 and renamed it to BP RANIA in 2016. On 14th October, the band released their first single album Close to Me under the Blackswan label.
