On Wednesday, Google Maps Immersive View was announced by Google in the Google I/O Event which will allow the users to see the more advanced version of street view on Google Maps. Not only this the users can also interact with the interactive features on the Immersive view. The feature will be available on every phone but in the beta version for only a few cities.
Google has been working on AI technology for several years and now they have started implementing the technology on their products, the same things Google has done with the Google Maps Immersive View. Using this technology and digital mapping google will create more immersive 3d-views of every street of the city, which you are planning to visit.
As per the Google Blog
“With a quick search, you can virtually soar over Westminster to see the neighborhood and stunning architecture of places, like Big Ben, up close.”
It means that virtually you can watch not only the streets but the neighborhoods, restaurant tours, monuments tours, and everything else.
And most important thing is that the images will be used which will be served by satellites to render the immersive view of any street in the upcoming feature Google Maps Immersive View.
The Google Maps Immersive View will have the features like, the users can swoop on the landmarks or any search for up-close perspective. At this time the Google Maps has reviews, ratings, and picture uploading features it will stay as it is. But an interesting feature has been added “TIme Slider” using which the users can watch how the landmark or area has been changed in the timeframe.
As per the Google Blog, the Google Maps Immersive feature will be available for Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo later this year and after the trial, various other cities will be added worldwide.
Google has also planned to roll out various other features like:
With this feature on Google Maps, the user can see which routes will use less fuel and that’s how the users can save fuel and stop the pollution upto some level. And Google Maps is branding it as Eco-Friendly Routes feature.
The developers can also take part in the development of various apps and wb-applets which can use the Google Maps Immersive feature for various purposes. They can also contribute to the development of the APIs further.
Examples, where the APIs could be used, are:
Telstra and Accenture are using it to help sports fans and concertgoers find their seats, concession stands, and restrooms at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
DOCOMO and Curiosity are building a new game that lets you fend off virtual dragons with robot companions in front of iconic Tokyo landmarks, like the Tokyo Tower. The new Geospatial API is available now to ARCore developers, wherever Street View is available.
