May completed her high school in Bahrain and after her father’s wish she went on to pursue an industrial design course in Boston, Massachusetts. May had developed a love for acting when she was a kid and watched the 1992 film Death Becomes Her, so her acting itch took her to the United States to pursue her dream acting career, and then she left Dubai where she resided for 5 years.

She has also earned a B.A. in theatre studies degree from Emerson College where she completed the course and later went on to attend the William Esper Studio in New York.

May Calamawy made her acting debut in 2013 with Tobe Hooper’s film Djinn, and it was the first horror film that was produced in the United Arab Emirates. Her first assignment was a recurring role in the American drama miniseries The Long Road Home.
