A Very British Scandal is a spectacular historical drama featuring Claire Foy and premiered on BBC One. The channel earlier announced a new series centered on the Royal couple of Argyll’s turbulent divorce as well as the media circus that accompanied it. On December 26, 2021, A Very British Scandal premiered on BBC First and BBC iPlayer.
This series will center on the shenanigans following the Duke and Duchess of Argyll’s divorce in the 1960s, similar to 2018’s A Very English Controversy, a reenactment of a 1976–1979 Jeremy Thorpe scandal.
That was a highly publicized divorce that involved the revelation of pornographic images and controversial testimonies. It was dubbed as one of the most notorious, remarkable, and terrible court cases of the twentieth century.
Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, was a true superstar, whose charm, elegance, and sense of style made her a constant on the front pages of newspapers.
Following the screening of the first episode, all subsequent episodes were made accessible on BBC iPlayer in the format of a box set. The program consisted of three episodes, which showed on BBC One at 9 p.m. on consecutive nights. The final episode was shown on December 28, 2021.

Dublin Murders (1 Season)
Even though it alternates across periods of time, Dublin Murders is a much more traditional crime drama than A Very British Scandal. Dublin Murders is a spooky, slow-burn thriller that aired on Starz and is inspired by Tana French’s acclaimed Dublin Murder Squad books.
If you’ve studied French novels, you’ll recognize aspects from the first two volumes in the series, Into the Woods and The Likeness, which are featured during the first season.
It’s actually quite a bit like Starz’s latest series, The Gloaming, in that it’s about two detectives who are ordered to probe the death of a young girl, which is linked to a horrible, unsolved mystery from their past.
A season 2 will soon be announced this year.
Belgravia (1 Season)
Belgravia is indeed a period drama that broadcasted on EPIX and is based on a book. Belgravia is a compelling and brief watch, despite the lack of supernatural components. Anyone who’s seen A Very British Scandal would want to see Belgravia, as it was created by Julian Fellowes, who already penned the book on which the series is based. Belgravia, like The Luminaries, is set in two separate years.
It does not, unfortunately, change it back and forth, and the gap between both the prologue and subsequent events is much wider than those in the Starz series.
On the evening of the Battle of Quatre Bras, the Duke of Wellington attends the Dutchess of Richmond’s ball, an elaborate event arranged in Brussels for him.
The combat took place only 2 days just before the famous Battle of Waterloo, as history buffs know. The Trenchards & Bellasis clans had moved into the newly constructed Belgravia twenty-six years down the line, and the ball’s events continue to affect them.
There still isn’t any news about a season 2 yet.
The Alienist (2 Seasons)
The Alienist is yet another historical drama based on a book that revolves around a central mystery. Caleb Carr’s novel of the same title as well as the follow-up book Angel of Darkness is the inspiration for the two seasons.
It stars Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, and Dakota Fanning as a ragtag group of individuals assembling in mid-nineteenth-century New York to track down a mass murderer. Whereas The Alienist is a piece of fiction but has real-life individuals such as Theodore Roosevelt & J.P. Morgan. There’s no information if there is going to be a season 3 or if the show has been canceled.
The Night Manager (1 Season)
Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, & Elizabeth Debicki star in The Night Manager, a John le Carré adaption. Olivia Colman’s portrayal as intelligence analyst Angela Burr steals the spotlight, despite the fact that she is three months pregnant.
Hiddleston, Laurie, and Colman each received performance honors for their roles in this show at the 2017 Golden Globes. Expect outstanding performances and stunning photography, resulting in a lavish miniseries to binge on.
Sadly there won’t be a season 2, since Susanne Bier, the director felt that he couldn’t do justice if he made a second season and wanted to leave the show with only praises.
