The production of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has just resumed after being put on hold. Despite the filming delay, Marvel Studios remains committed to the existing 2022 release date. After the early demise of star Chadwick Boseman, whose heartbreaking loss would forever impact the arc of the Black Panther saga, a lot is riding on this picture.
Due to a recent increase in his position, Winston Duke’s role, M’Baku, is expected to be the next Black Panther moving forward. Aside from that, another position, one that fans have been waiting for for years, is slated to be filled.
The main opponent of the Black Panther sequel is said to be Namor the Sub-Mariner, a figure as well-known in Marvel Comics as Black Panther itself. He’s a much more complicated person. He is among Marvel’s most renowned antiheroes, having both supported and opposed the Avengers in a variety of conflicts. Now that he may be joining the MCU, he will very certainly play an important part as the universe grows and, indeed, unravels. For the uninitiated, we’re here to inform you more about Submariner and provide some hints as to what his significance could be in the MCU.
Namor is a sea-dwelling Atlantean who debuted in the initial issue of Marvel Comics in 1939 as one of the company’s first superheroes. To be accurate, he is half-human and half-Atlantean. One might tell by the blue hue of a comprehensive Atlantean’s skin.
Marvel
Namor’s human skin color is inherited by his father, Commander Leonard McKenzie, who commanded a vessel in deep-sea experiments that resulted in the deaths of numerous Atlanteans. Princess Fen, Namor’s mother, entered McKenzie’s ship to foil his experiments but fell in love with the captain. Namor was indeed the child born as a result of the romance. As a result, he has earned the distinction of becoming the first mutant.
He possesses superhuman abilities, underwater telepathy, and the capacity to control the flow of water. His accomplishments include becoming an Avenger, an X-Men, the founding member of Defenders, or even fighting with Captain America in WWII. This fact may be brought up whenever Namor appears in a film. His most important job, of course, is that of Ruler of Atlantis, as he fiercely protects his people.
The superhero is known to be quick-tempered and prideful at times, and he is prepared to go to any length to preserve Atlantis, which has placed him in conflict with other heroes. He’s not your run-of-the-mill hero such as Captain America. His anger & arrogance has earned him the title of anti-hero, since he has no qualms about doing much to achieve his aims, even running over everyone who stands in his way.
Despite his half-human heritage, his strong devotion to his homeland has left him with little affection for humans. While his disdain for the surface dwellers was once more aggressive, he has subsequently tempered his position, working either for or against the continent for the sake of his country and its defense. Notwithstanding this, he has retained his arrogance.
Tenoch Huerta, who starred in Narcos: Mexico, is reported to be portraying Namor as the Sub-Mariner inside the Black Panther sequel, however, nothing has been verified. What’s been certain is that he is rumored to portray an unidentified adversary. If he is heading Atlantis versus Wakanda, it might be part of the two nations’ long-standing rivalry. However, Atlantis and Wakanda were at enmity in comics since The Defenders #84 in 1980.
In the comic book series The Avengers vs. The X-Men, the conflict reached a climax. In their war with the Avengers, he had allied with the X-Men. Infused with the powers of the Pheonix Force, Namor utilized his aquakinesis to launch a massive tsunami against Wakanda, the Avengers’ safe haven.
Marvel
This caused countless losses, prompting Wakanda to declare war on Atlantis. Unfortunately, this was not the end of the devastation. T’Challa would use a fake peace meeting to distract Namor while Wakandan soldiers destroyed Atlantis. With his empire destroyed, Namor went home to discover Thanos’ messenger awaiting to demand his allegiance to the Mad Titan.
Namor had no option but to do so, but not without bluffing about the existence of an Infinity Stone within Wakanda, inciting Thanos to assault the already wounded kingdom. While this confrontation occurred in the books, it is simply a glimpse of how horrible things may go if the two countries went to war. The allied leaders have teamed up as well, although reluctantly. In the Secret Wars series, they famously joined together to battle Doctor Doom. Namor has several possibilities inside the MCU that this is both fascinating and terrifying.
Considering that the new Multiverse narrative, such as the Infinity Saga, spans a decade, we may see the sea-dweller all support and oppose the Avengers. If he does assist them, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes may need to persuade him to do so, since he may not do so until it favors Atlantis. With the X-Men on the way, and the first mutants reported to infiltrate the MCU in the upcoming Doctor Strange film, Namor might appear as well. Depending on how the present MCU superheroes handle the mutant’s presence, this might lead to more big battles.
