JK Simmons Shares Some Details Over Future MCU Cameos

Published by

J.K. Simmons discusses J. Jonah Jameson’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and whether or not fans will see him again.

J.K. Simmons, who plays Spider-Man in No Way Home, has hinted at future appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the third Tom Holland Spider-Man film, which came out late last year, the actor reprised his role as J. Jonah Jameson. Since its release, No Way Home has become a box office sensation and is still playing in theaters.

Simmons is one of the longest-serving Marvel performers in Hollywood at this moment. In 2002, he made his first appearance as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, and he remained a mainstay of the trilogy until its conclusion in 2007.

The character was virtually forgotten during The Amazing Spider-Man films, but he reappeared in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, with Simmons reprising the role, this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The MCU’s Jameson builds a strong online following by revealing to the world that Peter Parker is, in fact, Spider-Man, a thread that began in Far From Home and culminated in No Way Home With Spider-Man: No Way Home With Spider-Man With the film’s success at the box office and the promise of additional adventures for Peter Parker, the subject of whether Simmons will reprise his role as Jameson in the future film has been broached.

What more JK Simmons shared about his Future in MCU Movies?

Den of Geek

Simmons hinted at a possible return in a recent interview on Deadline’s The Actor’s Side (via The Direct). He said, without committing one way or the other: “Hey, I suppose I’ll be in a few more things, so… I’m crossing my fingers.”

While it’s possible that Simmons will reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the future, it won’t be for a long time. Currently, the actor is working in the DC universe on the other side of the aisle. In Batgirl, he will play Commissioner Gordon alongside Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon, which will premiere later this year.

As Simmons has readily moved between the franchises in the past, playing in DC pictures will not bar him from acting in a future Spider-Man film, but it’s apparent that he’ll have to balance his responsibilities.

Of course, there’s a compelling case to be made that J. Jonah Jameson should return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man films. The conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to confirm that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker had finally evolved into the iconic Spider-Man that everyone knows and loves, replete with a new outfit and a complete lack of Stark resources. It would make sense for Peter to re-meet his universe’s Jameson now that he is in a state much closer to his comic book counterpart.
