Young Wallander Season 2 Must Watch Series Before Season 2

Young Wallander Season 2 is ready to be premiered on Netflix on 17th February. The 2020 crime drama series is based on Henning Mankell’s novels and his fictional character Inspector Kurt Wallander. Set in modern-day, a fact which has been criticized by many, the ionic detective is the focus of the show.

Kurt is a young police officer and his investigation of cases is extremely engaging and interesting. The edgy and modern series also uses various social commentaries throughout the plot.

Adam Pålsson stars as the titular Kurt Wallander. The other cast members include Richard Dillane, Leanne Best, Ellise Chappell, etc. Developed by Ben Harris the series premiered on Netflix on September 3, 2020. In November of the same year, the show got renewed for a second season which will arrive on February 17, 2022.

But before the second season hits the streaming platform this month, let us check out some more shows which are quite like ‘Young Wallander’.

Broadchurch-

This British crime drama is created and written by Chris Chibnall. The first season of the series focuses on the death of Daniel “Danny” Latimer and his grief-stricken family.

Danny is only eleven years old and all connected to him are under suspicion. The second season brings the investigation of Danny’s death closer to success as his killer is prosecuted. But a past case returns to haunt the present.

The third season which according to Chibnall’s plan is the final one presents the Latimer family going to extreme lengths to move on from Danny’s death while a local woman is raped at a birthday party. The first season premiered on March 4, 2013, with the second one airing on January 5, 2015, and the third one on February 25, 2017.

Marcella-

From the creator of the famous ‘The Bridge’ comes ‘Marcella’ is a British Scandi noir detective series. Hans Rosenfeldt has directed, produced, and written the whole series.

Season one opens with the former London Metropolitan Police Service detective Marcella Backland’s husband leaving her after fifteen years of marriage which spurs her decision to resume her work.

As the serial killer responsible for the three Grove Park murders of 2005 returns, Marcella begins to investigate the unsolved murders.

In the second season, Marcella’s investigation about a serial killer of children encounters disturbing traits like pedophilia, witchcraft, etc.

Her personal life does not go smoother either as her husband becomes engaged to a nurse of rehab even before their divorce leading the custody battle to take an ugly turn involving their children. To control the blackouts Marcella also has to seek counseling.

In the third season, Marcella is working undercover under the false identity of Keira Devlin. This season talks more about the detective’s mental issues.

Anna Friel stars as Detective Marcella Backland. The series premiered on ITV in the UK and on Netflix internationally on April 4, 2016.

Trapped-

An Icelandic TV Series ‘Trapped’ is created by Baltasar Kormakur. Set in a remote town of Iceland, the series focuses on Police chief Andri Ólafsson. When the mutilated corpse of a former townsman is found by a fisherman, Andri Ólafsson has to investigate the mysterious death.

Ólafur Darri Ólafsson stars as the detective Andri Ólafsson. The music of the series is composed by Johann Johannsson, Hildur Gudnadottir, and Rutger Hoedemaekers, the former being winner of the Golden Globe. ‘Trapped’ premiered on December 27, 2015.

Before We Die-

The crime drama focuses on Hanna who is a police inspector of the Stockholm police department’s financial crime unit. After her lover Sven who is also her co-worker gets abducted, Hanna becomes involved with the underworld power struggle. But things get more complicated when she discovers that her estranged son Christan is also involved with all these.

The series is directed by Kristian Petri, Simon Kaijser, Kristina Humle, Kaezen Kader, Jonas Westbom, Jens Sjogren. Marie Richardson plays the role of Hanna. The series premiered on January 15, 2017.

Fortitude-

This British psychological thriller series is created by Simon Donald. The plot is set in the Norwegian Arctic island of Fortitude where an apparent calmness can be seen from the outside. But a series of violent and strange deaths informs of a mystery lurking under the veil of quietness. Where almost everybody is keeping secrets how can the mystery be resolved?

The main cast of ‘Fortitude’ includes Richard Dormer, Sofie Gråbøl, Mia Jexen, Alexandra Moen, Sienna Guillory, etc. The series premiered on January 29, 2015, on Sky Atlantic and ran till December 27, 2018.

The series received an 86% rating in Rotten Tomatoes with a quite positive review. The second season gained more popularity and achieved an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
