Shadow and Bone Season 2: Must Watch Series Before Season 2

Shadow and Bone Season 2 has finally begun filming. Yes! You heard that right, filming of Netflix’s blockbuster fantasy series has resumed, with first filming taking place in Budapest, Hungary once more. And, if that wasn’t enough good news, we’ve officially learned who will portray Nikolai Lantsov and Wylan Van Eck in season 2!

The first season of The Netflix series Shadow and Bone follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), a cartographer who finds she has sun-summoning abilities and is based on fantasy novelist Leigh Bardugo’s trilogy of the same name and her Six of Crows duology.

As a result, she is a member of the Grisha, a mystical group of individuals. The program took four months to shoot, with main photography taking place between October 2019 and February 2020. Season 2 should end in May if the filming schedule for season 1 is followed.

However, due to the ongoing epidemic, more reshoots, and a long post-production phase, season 1 would not premiere until April 2021, a period of 14 months. If Season 2 suffers the same fate, the next batch of episodes may not be released until the summer of 2023.

But we’ve got you covered, from Teen dramas about kids with mysterious powers to elaborate fantasies with large, broad universes the following is a list for every sort of Shadow and Bone fan to watch before season 2 of the Shadow and Bone series;

Let’s have a look at the series you should watch before Shadow and Bone Season 2

His Dark Materials

His Dark Materials is based on Philip Pullman’s trilogy of books, and it’s one of HBO’s most underappreciated fantasy dramas. It revolves around a young orphan who, like Shadow and Bone, finds that she has a responsibility to preserve the planet.

Lyra (Dafne Keen) is younger than Alina, and their worlds have different beliefs. Lyra comes from a world where every human is born with a demon, an animal embodiment of their soul that includes everything from a highly intelligent army of polar bears to Lin-Manuel Miranda, but their senses of duty are similar. It also helps that His Dark Materials is an engrossing show that’s easy to lose yourself in.

Shadowhunters

Deadline

Shadowhunters and Shadow and Bone share much more than simply the word “shadow” in their titles. Shadowhunters is likewise based on a book series, namely Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments trilogy, and it follows a young lady as she discovers her life-altering abilities.

Clary discovers on her 18th birthday that she is descended from a long line of human-angel hybrids known as Shadowhunters who have dedicated their lives to slaying demons. Clary becomes immersed in her new world after her mother is kidnapped, joining a gang of other hunters and facing vampires and werewolves along the way.

Clary, like Alina, is an adolescent attempting to figure out how to save the world and to put her new skills to good use.

Cursed

What’s on Netflix

The majority of the shows on this list are about characters achieving their goals, and Cursed is no exception. Nimue (Katherine Langford) teams up with Arthur (Devon Terrell) to save her people from the Red Paladins, a group of murderous religious fanatics.

It’s a coming-of-age story with some violent moments, and while the tonal shifts aren’t always done gracefully, if you liked Alina’s arc, you’ll probably enjoy Nimue’s as well. Nimue’s connection with Arthur also has echoes of Alina’s friendship with Mal (Archie Renaux), in case you missed that dynamic after completing Shadow and Bone.

Luna Nera

IMDb

Luna Nera is another young heroine who finds herself in a terrible predicament. Witchcraft is really real in this Italian series about Ade (Antonia Fotaras), a sixteen-year-old who is suspected of being a witch and flees her community to live with a gang of witches! Because this is first and primarily a YA show, they’re busy defending the doorway between the living and the dead, and Ade is busy forming a crush on the son of the top witch hunter.

Apart from that, Luna Nera is a gritty look at magic, witchcraft, and the persecution of women associated with it, and it was written and directed exclusively by women, which is arguably the coolest aspect of it.

The Witcher

The New York Times

Henry Cavill plays Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, which is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series, a hired monster hunter whose destiny connects him to the strong princess Ciri(Anya Chalotra) and the sorceress Yennefer (Freya Allan).

This is about a classic fantasy story, filled with magic, terrible monsters, and perilous adventures, but what keeps the plot fresh is Geralt’s reluctance to follow the destiny that has been laid out for him.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Den of Geek

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is much sillier than Shadow and Bone, but it does include an adolescent protagonist trying to harness her abilities.

Kiernan Shipka plays Sabrina, a half-human, half-witch who is torn between a life as a “regular” high school student in the mortal world and life in the darker realm of witchcraft and mythological creatures due to her half-human, half-witch lineage.

As the series progresses, Sabrina defies strong individuals, even Satan himself, who try to decide her fate for her. This series includes a lot of fun, witchy moments, and, most importantly, there’s a lot of teen romantic turmoil.
