Emma Watson Recalls Leaving ‘Harry Potter’ Franchise: ‘The fame thing had finally hit home’

Published by

Emma Watson shared the time when she was thinking to leave the ‘Harry Potter franchise. Rupert Grint, Watson’s co-star, admitted that he had considered leaving the franchise as well.

If Emma Watson had bailed midway through the “Harry Potter” series, the franchise could have taken a completely different turn.

When she and several of her co-stars starred in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in 2001, they shot to popularity at a young age.

While Watson and her co-stars have made a lucrative career in Hollywood as a result of their early fame, it hasn’t been an easy road for them.

What more Emma Watson shared in the recent interview.

Fox News

Watson, aged 31, will feature in HBO Max’s upcoming “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” special, in which she and other cast members will reflect on their time working on the franchise.

Director David Yates revealed in the reunion special that Watson pondered leaving the franchise shortly after agreeing to helm “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” the fifth of the eight films.

“People forget what she went through and how gracefully she handled it,” he remarked.

“Director David Yates shared Emma had on one to support her while shooting for the movies, as she was alone and young.”

“We never talked about it on the set because we were all just kids,” Daniel Radcliffe, who played the titular young wizard, continued.

“As a 14-year-old guy, I was never going to turn around and say, “Hey, how are you doing?” to another 14-year-old. ‘Is everything in order?’ “he clarified.

Watson wasn’t the only celebrity to ponder leaving the storied franchise; Rupert Grint also considered departing at various periods.

He said, “I had times like that all the way through.” “I had similar thoughts to Emma, pondering what life would be like if I called it quits for the day, but we never actually talked about it. We were simply going through everything at our own rate, I think. We were in the middle of something at the time. It didn’t occur to us that we were all experiencing identical emotions.”

On January 1, HBO Max will begin streaming “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.”
