The Witcher Season 3: New Characters and Everything we know

The Witcher Season 3 Updates: These days, The Witcher franchise is truly a valley of plenty. Between the anime prequel and the other spinoffs now in development, Andrzej Sapkowski’s world appears to be expanding by the day.

But, of course, everyone’s attention is drawn to Henry Cavill’s flagship show, and not just because Geralt is attractive. The good news is that, even before season two was released, Netflix has already confirmed that season three is on the way.

The announcement was made during Netflix’s TUDUM event in September 2021, but now that some time has passed, there’s a lot more information about season three to offer. So saddle up with your trusty steed and as much cash as you can carry as we return to the Continent to discover out what’s next in The Witcher season three.

When will The Witcher Season 3 released?

Season two of The Witcher came out almost exactly two years after the first, but it was mostly due to COVID-related delays, as well as Henry Cavill’s on-set injury.

For the time being, TV productions appear to be moving at much the same pace as they were prior to the epidemic, thus season three should arrive by the end of 2022, or perhaps early 2023, assuming no further delays. That is, of course, subject to change.

Digital Spy revealed that the writer’s room is already working on material for season three when speaking with showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich in the last week of November 2021.

“This season’s writers room is outstanding. We’ve always had fantastic writers on the show, after all. However, I believe that this season in particular has… We had some new individuals come in, and it was very interesting how having this new blood changed the energy of the room: people who had watched the first season, then screened the second season, and came in with fresh, new thoughts, and questioned me on things I hadn’t really considered before.”

“What’s unique is that we finalized the scripts first, and then we started talking to the actors and directors, and then we started talking about the production restrictions of turning these eight episodes into a full-length adventure,” Lauren explained. “It’s critical to me that the actors, for example, are enthusiastic about and knowledgeable about their characters’ experiences.” So those will be the topics of discussion in the near future.”

Who’s in the cast of The Witcher Season 3?

We can probably expect the following celebs to join Henry Cavill in season three (since without Geralt, there isn’t really a show, right?) assuming all goes according to plan and none of our favorites wind up in a monster’s belly:

Cirilla AKA Ciri is played by Freya Allan.

Yennefer of Vengerberg is played by Anya Chalotra.

Jaskier is played by Joey Batey.

Istredd is played by Royce Pierreson.

Triss Merigold is played by Anna Shaffer.

Vesemir is played by Kim Bodnia.

Season two significantly extended the cast, and the trend is likely to continue in the following chapter. Perhaps the program will finally incorporate some LGBT characters…

We asked Joey Batey on The Witcher’s most recent publicity tour in November 2021 what he expects is in store for Jaskier after season two.

“It’s a difficult one,” he admitted. “I have complete faith in Lauren’s [Hissrich] vision. She’s revising literature from the 1980s and incorporating aspects of our lives that people want to see on television. They are no longer interested in seeing dragons. They want to see dragons, but they’re also curious in how xenophobia operates on this continent. What’s it like when there’s chaos and war?

“She’s fantastic at taking all of these contentious issues and presenting them through the perspective of fantasy.” That’s what I’m most excited for in season three: the continuation of that, as well as deeper investigation of the topics that matter to fans.”

Freya Allan, when asked the same question, provided us a more detailed response:

“All I want to see is [Ciri] turn into a psychopath.” That is the most crucial point. I can’t wait until she gets her hands on a real silver sword that isn’t a broomstick [laughs]. That’s something I’m looking forward to, and I’m sure Ciri is as well. As a result, we’ll all be excited together.”

And, in an interview with The Radio Times, Freya confirmed that she’s already seen the season three scripts: “It’s a lot of fun.” “I believe this is going to be a fantastic season.”

However, things may not go as planned for everyone. Lauren S. Hissrich teased that season three will include “a lot of action, some death… some death!” during a panel at the Lucca Comics & Games Festival in Italy. Is she referring to the death of a prominent character or just some good ol’ monster slaying? We’ll have to wait and see, I guess…
