The Rescue Will Start Streaming on Disney+ December 3

The Rescue Updates: The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc’s original song “Believe,” co-written with Gary Go and Daniel Pemberton, and the whole Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Academy Award-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton were also released today by Hollywood Records.

The Rescue premiered to acclaim at the Telluride Film Festival in 2021 and went on to win the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival the following year. Camden Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Bend Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, and others have all earned audience prizes on the festival circuit.

The film debuted in theatres on October 8, 2021, and is one of only three documentaries to surpass $1 million in box office receipts this year. On Rotten Tomatoes, “The Rescue” has a perfect score and E.

“At its core, ‘The Rescue’ is a narrative about a group of individuals from many ethnicities, languages, and cultures coming together to accomplish a shared purpose,” Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin stated. We’re ecstatic to be able to present the film to audiences across the country and around the world via Disney+, allowing them to experience for themselves this incredible narrative of human achievement and compassion.”

A simple stroll after soccer practice in the summer of 2018 turned into a two-week survival odyssey and a story that quickly caught the attention of the globe. Until they were discovered, locked in a pitch-black room two kilometers deep within the cave, anticipation, and misery hovered in the air. The next challenge was how to get them out, which was instant, evident, and perplexing.

All About The Rescue

National Geographic Documentary Films

The Rescue is a gripping and emotional account of one of history’s most daring and miraculous rescues. The film takes us inside the iconic cave, showcases the efforts of the Royal Thai Navy SEALs and US Special Forces, and recounts the skilled cave divers’ bold expedition to dive the boys to safety, with unique interviews and a trove of never-before-seen footage.

The video puts audiences on the edge of their seats as it depicts the high-risk world of cave diving, the rescuers’ incredible heroism and compassion, and the entire community’s shared humanity in saving the lads. Vasarhelyi and Chin record a tremendously dangerous physical achievement, laying bare the specifics of the seemingly impossible rescue, in the manner of their previous documentaries Free Solo and Meru.

Disney Music has published the film’s award-winning entire soundtrack, as well as the original song “Believe” by singer-songwriter Aloe Blacc. In 2021, he was nominated for his first Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Hear My Voice,” which he co-wrote with Celeste, as well as receiving Film Composer of the Year from the World Soundtrack Academy.

Pemberton has worked on projects for Danny Boyle (Yesterday, Steve Jobs), Ridley Scott (All the Money in the World, The Counsellor), Aaron Sorkin (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Being The Ricardos), and Darren Aronofsky (The Trial of the Chicago 7, Being The Ricardos) (Welcome to Earth, One Strange Rock).

The Rescue Cinematic Experience

National Geographic Documentary Films

“‘The Rescue,'” Pemberton said, “is a very dramatic and exhilarating cinematic experience.” The director’s Jimmy and Chai, on the other hand, wanted the audience to feel relieved and hopeful, so we were entrusted with composing a song that was shamelessly upbeat and reflected, in their words, the concept that you could ‘believe in the unbelievable.’

When the UK divers first see the boys in the cave, Rick Stanton just mouths the word ‘believe’ over and over in amazement and horror, and later when US Marine Derek Anderson asks, ‘What does the impossible look like?’ There are two significant moments in the film that we all found ourselves pulled to.

Working with Gary Go and Aloe Blacc to produce something that hopefully symbolizes that really rare time of worldwide joy and optimism has been a tremendous adventure.”

“The world’s toughest issues are only as difficult as our desire to participate as a global community to solve them,” Aloe Blacc, the singer/songwriter of “Belief,” stated. I think that by working together, we will be able to conquer any hurdle.”

The Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and seven-time Emmy Award-winning film Free Solo, as well as the Academy Award-nominated film The Cave, were originally distributed by National Geographic Documentary Films.

Ron Howard’s Rebuilding Paradise, Sundance Audience Award winners Science Fair and Sea of Shadows, Emmy winners LA 92 and Jane, both of which were included in the top 15 documentaries considered for an Academy Award in 2017, and Dupont Award winner Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS are among the critically acclaimed films under the banner.
