Former policeman Félix Gallardo, also known as “El Padrino” (The Godfather), was responsible for combining the numerous smuggling zones known as “plazas,” serving as the de facto creator of the modern-day Mexican drug trade and becoming the leader of the Guadalajara cartel.
He was arrested in 1989 for the murder of Kiki Camarena, as well as drug trafficking and other offenses. His arrest resulted in the cartel’s collapse and the beginning of the current Mexican drug war. Félix gets arrested at the end of Season 2, bringing his tale to a close. Luna did not return for the last season of the show.
