Scarlett Johansson and Disney settle ‘Black Widow’ lawsuit

Scarlett Johansson Updates: Black Widow actress and one of the most famous Hollywood celebrities Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney accusing that she is not treated fairly and the studio is taking advantage of the COVID-19 to increase the subscribers of its newly released OTT platform Disney+ by releasing her new starrer Black Widow, this sparked outrage against both the parties in online as the online community states this a bad PR and it is unfair for an actress like Scarlett to ask more stakes in a movie just because the movie is not released as per the plan.

On the other side, fans accuse Diesney’s mentality as very big corporate and very capitalistic and they should pay the compensation for Scarlett as she was signed the contract believing that the movie will get released in theaters only and she will get a piece from the profit as a fellow producer.

At the end of July month, Scarlett sued Disney accusing the company of ‘Breach of contract’. The full details of the lawsuit are not disclosed however it is believed that the suit was filed against Disney by Scarlett for the studio not paying compensation for releasing the movie early on Disney+.

She claims that the movie would have collected more revenue in the box office if it would have run more time in theaters as it was supposed mere 3 to 4 weeks and thereby she would have earned more from the profit as per the contract as a fellow producer.

As she is not a partner and not having any stakes in Disney+ the profit that is made through it will not be earned. Some experts question the legitimacy of the lawsuit from the beginning as the contract does not specify the time duration between the removal of the movie from the box office and making it available on Disney+.

Scarlett fans however back her argument and this dispute created outrage among netizens. As expected Disney does not want one of its high profile actors the sue them or talk bad stuff about them in public as it would making them more viscous in the market and it would lead to their stock valuation and brand value decreasing and they were trying to settle out of court.

On October 1, 2021, CNN reported that the terms between Disney and Scarlett Johanson were settled and the actress is happy now and will continue to work again with the studio.

Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed as expected, fans online still want full details about this because according to them, they help the issue be solved swiftly by speaking about it. But it is practical to think that a company like Disney wouldn’t want its internal deals to be seen in public as it will mean that they will be forced to do so in the future citing this.

Disney executives told CNN that the actress will work with the studio in the upcoming project ‘Tower of Terror’ and other projects in the future.
