Black Panther 2 Updates: Following Chadwick Boseman’s death, Marvel Studios chose not to recast T’Challa, meaning someone else will take over the role of Black Panther in next year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. They won’t be the only new superheroes in the sequel, though. It’s been revealed that Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart, will make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Panther 2.

Last year, it was reported that Ironheart would get her own Disney+ series, with Dominque Thorne as Riri Williams. However, we’ll meet Riri during the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever before that program hits Disney’s streaming service.

Kevin Feige informed, “We’re shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first. She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series.”

We’ll get to meet Riri Williams on the big screen before the focus is pointed on her in Disney+’s Ironheart, just like T’Challa did in Captain America: Civil War a little under two years before the Black Panther movie came out.

Kevin Feige didn’t reveal any details regarding Riri’s role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, including whether or not she’ll truly dress up as Ironheart. It’s probable that in the Phase 4 film, we’ll only see her as a civilian, and her superhero origin story will be saved for her TV show.

Riri Williams is a teenager genius who constructed her own Iron Man-like suit of armor while attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as seen in Invincible Iron Man #7 from 2016. (MIT). This drew Tony Stark’s notice, and he approved Riri’s decision to become a superhero, even using a duplicate of his consciousness as the Ironheart armor’s artificial intelligence for a while. 

Riri has also been a member of the Champions, and she has appeared in the animated special Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron and the animated series Marvel’s Spider-Man, in addition to the comics.

Along with the newly revealed Dominique Thorne and Letitia Wright reprising Shuri (who, based on the comics, may end up taking over as Black Panther), Danai Gurira as Okoye, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, and Martin Freeman as Everett Ross will return in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Tenoch Huerta and Michaela Cole have also been cast in unspecified roles, however, it’s been speculated that the latter would play Namor the Sub-Mariner. Black Panther 2 is directed by Ryan Coogler, who also co-wrote the script with Joe Robert Cole.
