Jimmie Allen Discusses the Values He Wants to Instill in His Children

Published by

Jimmie Allen Updates: Jimmie Allen is expecting his third child, but the basic principles he wants to instill in his children haven’t changed. In an interview with PEOPLE, the 35-year-old musician discusses his debut children’s book, My Voice Is a Trumpet, as well as his parenting approach and how he’s assisting his son Aadyn in adjusting to life as the only male in the family.

“My major messages with my kids are to be yourself, have faith in yourself, never give up, and be kind to others,” the country singer adds. “No matter what you’re doing, those are tools that will help you succeed.”

Allen’s latest children’s book, published by Flamingo Books on Tuesday, is similarly about self-confidence. Allen and Alexis Gale, whom he married in May, have a 16-month-old daughter Naomi Bettie and a 7-year-old son Aadyn from a previous relationship. The couple announced last month that they are expecting a baby girl in November.

What Jimmie Allen Shared?

“With all of the noise on social media, it’s easy to get persuaded and want to be like other people,” says the platinum-selling musician, who has frequently used his platform to discuss racial justice and his experiences as one of the few well-known Black country performers.

“The person you should be is more like yourself; right now, youngsters need a lot of comfort and confidence-building.”The country singer intends to share the book with his children but says Aadyn would be more open if it was written by someone else.

“You’re well aware of your children’s behavior. They say, “Okay,” when you do something. However, when someone else does it, it’s fantastic “Allen cracks jokes. “So I’m going to tell him the book was written by someone else and then ask his opinion.”

While Allen and his wife are looking forward to welcoming their newborn daughter — and are having trouble deciding on a name — Aadyn was less enthusiastic about having another sibling.”He’s looking forward to being a big brother.

He did say, though, that if we don’t have another sibling, he’ll be disappointed “Allen reminisces. “‘Dad, there are too many girls,’ he remarked. ‘There’s Mommy,’ he said. Alexis is there. There’s Naomi, and now there’s this newcomer.’”
