Over $2,000 Super Mario Watch Limited-Edition

Super Mario Watch Updates: Nintendo is teaming up with yet another large brand, this time luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer, to create a limited-edition Super Mario watch that will only be available to the most dedicated fans since the watch will set you back over $2,000.

While the price is a fraction of the value of one Mario world coin, it may be one of the most costly items of official Mario-related products on the market.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo’s mustachioed mascot has linked up with a major brand, having previously partnered with Levi’s and Moschino. Mario is one of the most well-known characters in the world, having transcended the domain of video games to become a household brand.

From Super, Nintendo World-themed trains in Japan to the forthcoming Game of Life: Super Mario Edition board game, the plumber’s famous visage has featured on products all around the world.

Tag Heuer revealed their Super Mario partnership on social media early Tuesday, showing a close-up of the item in action (via NintendoLife). Two thousand watches will be available in the limited-edition release, each costing $2,150.

The watch does much more than just tell time, though, since it includes a step counter, Google Pay, and a variety of health and sports-tracking applications, among other smartwatch features.

Mario animations will also aid in the tracking of fitness objectives, with Mario celebrating accomplishments, while the watch’s design pays tribute to the plumber with “customizable dials and external components.” Nintendo enthusiasts who want to know more about the unique watch may sign up for notifications on the Tag Heuer website.

While some may be put off by the prospect of spending thousands on Mario merchandise, the Tag Heuer partnership is a fraction of the price of some of the franchise’s titles. A sealed copy of Super Mario 64 just sold at auction for $1.5 million, making it the most expensive video game ever sold.

Before gamers rush to sell their own copies of the Nintendo 64 classic, it’s worth noting that the auctioned edition was extremely uncommon. It was originally ranked 9.8 on the Wata Scale, which assesses the quality and potential worth of video games, and is thought to be one of just five unopened copies in existence.

The Tag Heuer x Super Mario partnership comes only months after Nintendo commemorated the 35th anniversary of the Mario franchise. Nintendo also opened the doors to the first Mario theme park, Super Nintendo World, in Universal Studios Japan, in addition to limited-release games such as the battle royale game Super Mario Bros. 35.

With its formal debut, Super Nintendo World ran into pandemic-related problems, although it is now available to visitors under Japan’s current COVID-19 rules. In the future, a comparable theme park will open in Orlando, Florida, with a projected completion date of 2025. While a trip to Super Nintendo World is likely to be more expensive than a Super Mario Tag Heuer watches for many, there is still time to save.
