Vikings: Valhalla Sequel Revealed the First Look

Published by

Vikings: Valhalla Sequel Updates: The original Vikings series concluded its six-season run on The History Channel, leaving a slew of adoring fans yearning for more. The show’s sequel, Vikings: Valhalla, has been in the works for a while and seeks to maintain the spirit that made the first so successful.

So there’s beefcakes, ships, and drama. As part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, the first clip from the spin-off debuted with a new style.

As one would expect from a teaser reel, not much is revealed in terms of plot, but what is revealed is tantalizing. There were plenty of hulking Vikings and hulking Viking ships. What you’d expect and want from the show, plus a cool time-lapse demonstrating how much labor goes into set building and a lot of views of farm animals.

We don’t know much about this sequel spin-off, but we do know it takes place roughly 100 years after the events of the original. The show will include “some of the most renowned Vikings who ever lived,” including Leif Eriksson, Freydis Eriksdotter, Harald Hardrada, and Norman King William the Conqueror, according to the official description. “These men and women will carve a path as they struggle for survival in an ever-changing and evolving planet,” the show continues.

The people who bring the performance to life are also changing. Michael Hirst, the creator, producer, and writer of Vikings, is only returning as an executive producer this time. Jeb Stuart, the writer behind Die Hard and The Fugitive, has joined the project as showrunner and executive producer alongside Hirst.

Distribution is another significant shift. Because the History Channel no longer plans to produce dramas, Hirst told IGN that the show was shifted to Netflix “Netflix provides you with clear benefits, so we’re thrilled to be working with them.

It’s also a long-term commitment on their part. And, of course, I’m ecstatic that my tale, in some ways, continues.” The filming site remains consistent: Vikings Valhalla is being shot in Wicklow, Ireland, where the original was shot every season.

The release date for Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix has yet to be announced.
