Vin Diesel Admits that He Misses Paul Walker as The Fast and The Furious Celebrates 20 Years

Published by

Vin Diesel Updates: The film franchise that gave fans the unexpectedly perfect pairing of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, The Fast and the Furious became 20 years old.
In an interview with South China Morning Post, Diesel, 53, spoke about the friendship he formed with Paul Walker while making The Fast and The Furious which celebrated its 20th anniversary on Tuesday, June 22.
Diesel spoke nostalgically about Paul Walker, saying, “The 90s was characterized largely by an east coast/west coast beef: I was a quintessential New Yorker, he was a quintessential LA boy. It was already so unlikely that we would be not only brothers but bond the way that we did.”
The Fast and Furious is now up to nine films. The first film introduced Walker as undercover police officer Brian O’Conner. O’Conner is tasked to infiltrate the crew of street racer Dominic Toretto played by Vin Diesel, to investigate a series of vehicular hijackings.
The relationship between the characters of Brian O’Conner and Dominic Toretto became the heart of the Fast and the Furious films. Over the course of the films more personalities were added and plots shifted from illegal street racing to epic stories of heists, spycraft and saving the world. Whatever the plot be, the films had family in the core.

What More Vin Diesel Shared About Fast and The Furious?

Entertainment Weekly
Paul Walker talked to USA Today in November 2013 during one of his last interviews from the Set of Fast and Furious 7.
Justin Lin who directed The Fast and The Furious 9 admitted thinking that The Fast and the Furious would be only one film. He said that the Diesel/Walker dynamic was what connected the audience. Their friendship was what attracted the audience because once you see something like that, you can never forget it.
Diesel has fond memories of Walker and says that their friendship was cemented very early on when they used to go on test drives in Dodger Stadium. He talked about Walker saying that Walker did a strange thing of making Diesel feel like he only cared about his opinion.
Diesel had experience in filmmaking: he had a short film called Multi-Facial, that he wrote, directed, produced and starred in. Walker respected that and therefore, sought out his expertise in his role.
Diesel remembers how Walker would ask for his opinion on his lines during table reads with people all around them. And when he gave his opinions, Diesel said that Walker would light up as if his opinion was magical. Diesel believes that to be the beginning of their beautiful friendship, a bond that made up the Fast and the Furious movies so attractive to the fans.
