Final Fantasy 6: Pixel Remaster will replace Final Fantasy 5

Published by

Final Fantasy 6 Updates: The current version of Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 6 will not be available for purchase on Steam from July 27 as it will be replaced by Pixel Remaster.
The existing versions of Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 6 will no longer be available for purchase starting from July 27, as they will be replaced by the Pixel Remaster version of the games.
Even though FF5 and FF6 are fan favorites and are considered to be some of the best games on Super Nintendo, Square Enix hasn’t always treated the games with care.
Final Fantasy 5 did not receive a localization until ’99 when it was ported to the original PlayStation as a part of the Final Fantasy Collection. The wild success of FF7, also led to Final Fantasy 6 being ported to PlayStation. Final Fantasy 7 was actually the one that prompted interest among the players to try the older entries in the series.
The two games were also ported to the Game Boy Advance, with new content added for returning players. Fans of the games believed PlayStation and Game Boy Advance to be the best ports to play the games. Later, Square Enix started porting its older games to mobile phones and Steam.

All About Final Fantasy 6

Game Informer
The existing versions of FF5 and FF6 are notorious for their visuals which might be the reason that they are being replaced. The official Steam pages of FF5 and FF6 have made the announcement that these versions of the game will not be available for purchase from July 27 onward.
It is possible that the people who already have these game versions in their library will be able to download them freely, only new purchases will be impossible.
The reason that these games will no longer be available for purchase is that they are being replaced by the Pixels Remaster versions of the games. This was announced by Square Enix during the E3 2021 event. They announced that the remasters versions of the first six Final Fantasy games are coming to PC and mobile phones.
While the existing versions of FF5 and FF6 are notorious for their visuals, the Pixels Remaster versions of the games promise to be more aesthetically pleasing.
It is unlikely that fans will mourn the loss of the PC versions of Final Fantasy 5 and Final Fantasy 6, as they see them as less than stellar ports compared to PlayStation and Game Boy Advance. However, Square Enix has talked about creating its own game distribution platform in the past, and the Final Fantasy Pixels Remasters could be another step towards that dream.
