F9 Ending Explained & Other Details

F9 Updates: The Fast & Furious franchise is back with a new movie, and here’s what happened in F9’s ending and how its movies will be set up in the future. With the delay of a year and supposed to be released in 2020, Fast & Furious finally hits the theaters after this due to COVID-19.
The movie is highly anticipated by fans of the franchise for a variety of reasons, such as the return of Sung Kang’s Han and discovering the truth behind the reveal that Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) has a secret brother.
Directed by Justin Lin, F9 continues the story of Dom and his crew a few years after the events of The Fate of the Furious. The Movie begins as Dom and Letty ( Michelle Rodriguez ) trying to live a peaceful life in the country to raise Dom’s son Brian.
This set of events changes when Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) arrive with a mission sent to them by Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell). Dom’s brother Jakob (John Cena) turned against Mr. Nobody to kidnap Cipher (Charlize Theron) in order to get Project Ares, a device that can control every piece of electronic device on the planet.
This mission leads to the return of Han, incredibly powerful car magnets, and the Fast & Furious franchise finally going to space. At the end of F9, the team successfully stops Project Ares from launching and sets a plot for the franchise will head next.
Universal has already announced Fast & Furious 10 and Fast & Furious 11, which will serve as a two-part finale to the main series. Based on Fast & Furious 9’s ending, there are plenty of clues about where the franchise is going next as it speeds towards its conclusion.

F9 Jakob Torretto Fled – And May Return:

ScreenRant
Once the mission was complete, Dom seems to forgive Jakob and gave them a lease on his new life. Then Dom gives the keys to Jakob of a 10-second car as a second chance, which was a callback to the same as Brain O’Connor doing for Dom at the end of Fast and the Furious.
After getting a hug from Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), Jakob drives away and is on the run due to his role in what recently transpired. Although Jakob doesn’t make a stop at dinner at the end of F9 it is clear that he’s on a redemptive path.
He should return in Fast & Furious 10 and Fast & Furious 11, with Cena hoping for a crossover with Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs too.
Cipher All Set As Villain For Fast & Furious 10
ScreenRant
F9’s ending puts up Cipher as the main villain of Fast & Furious 10, and possibly beyond it. The manipulative and genius hacker was the main villain in The Fate of the Furious, but she managed to escape and survive. Cipher’s return was a lurking threat towards Jakob.
As seen in the movie she was mostly locked up in a containment cell trying to convince her business partner and was successful in doing so in the end. Once she got control of the operation she did everything in her power to stop Dom, his crew, and Jakob from stopping Project Ares upload. Even after they successfully thwarted her global takeover scheme, she pilots a drone to try and kill them.
However, Dom manages to destroy the drone and keep himself and his family safe. Cipher must be pretty much frustrated as she was been defeated by Dom and his crew for the second time and she’ll be even more determined to defeat them.
A rematch as part of Fast & Furious 10 ‘s story looks to be where Justin Lin is building things. It’ll be interesting to see who Cipher will work with and what will be her next plan. Connecting her story to Eton, the technologically advanced terrorist group from Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw could be one way to go and give Cipher a new level of resources.
Brian O’Connor Still Hangs Out With Family
ScreenRant
The Fast & Furious franchise had a hard time deciding what to do with Brian O’Connor following Paul Walker’s death during the production of Furious 7. The movie kept him alive and gave Walker a moving tribute on the big screen. F9 confirms that Brian is alive and is settled to be a father, but took a step further. The movie explains he is the one watching his and Mia’s kids while she gets involved in the search for Jakob.
At the very end of F9, the movie teases Brian still hangs out with Dom and the crew. His blue Skyline pulls into the driveway of the Toretto’s original home. The movie cuts to the credits before Brian is shown on screen and taking his place at the table next to Mia, but the implication is significant.
Instead of continuing to mention Brian and allude to what he is up to, F9’s ending could be setting up how Brian will return in Fast & Furious 10 and Fast & Furious 11. Those involved with the franchise have teased that there is a chance Brian will return using similar techniques that Furious 7 did to complete his role after Walker’s passing.
Walker’s brothers are hoping to play O’Connor again, so F9 confirming that Brian is still hanging out with the family could plant the seeds for an actual appearance in future films.
F9 Post-Credits Scene: Han Gets Justice On Deckard Shaw
The post-credits scene for F9 gives fans an exciting tease as it pertains to the #JusticeForHan movement. The scene brings Jason Statham back as Deckard Shaw for a quick cameo, as he practices his fighting using a literal human punching bag.
He has to stop momentarily when someone knocks on his door, and Deckard is shocked to see Han alive and standing there when he opens it. F9’s post-credits scene is setting up a future story where Han could get justice on Deckard for attempting to kill him.
Han’s death originally happened in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, but the franchise changed the timeline to bring him back for prequels. His death happened again at the end of Fast & Furious 6, where it was revealed that Deckard Shaw killed him in an act of revenge for what Dom and his crew did to Owen Shaw.
This was supposed to be the end of Han’s story, but the redemption story given to Deckard in The Fate of the Furious left fans calling for the franchise to deliver #JusticeForHan. Director Justin Lin has said this is one reason why he wanted to return to the franchise, and F9’s post-credits scene sets up how he will tell that story.
It is not yet clear if F9’s post-credits scene will be paid off in Fast & Furious 10 or some other movie, but the next installment of the main franchise is most likely. Since F9 revealed Mr. Nobody helped fake Han’s death, it should be interesting to see what Lin does with Deckard Shaw’s character.
The characters could reconcile the events of the past and help fans feel at ease with Deckard’s more heroic turn in the Fast & Furious franchise.
