The Flash Season 8 Highlights DC’s Problem With Having Fake Cities

Published by

The Flash Season 8 Updates: DC has encountered a strange problem of geography inconsistency in The Flash series. The recent episode of The Flash had shed light on one of the biggest problems of DC comics. DC Comics and Marvel comics are two highly successful superhero comics that prevail in the world.
Unlike Marvel, DC uses fictional cities for its plot and character establishment. DC’s adaptation of fictional cities has led to much confusion regarding the actual location of certain cities and the confusion has stretched up to the Arrowverse.

The Flash Season 8: Geographical inconsistencies:

The Pilot episode of The Flash gave rise to this problem. Barry Allen‘s hometown of central City and Green Arrow’s Starling City is nearly 965 km (600 miles) apart. But the location was changed in the later episodes of Arrow, where Star city is close to the real-world city of Seattle.
Whereas in the later episodes of The Flash series, the Star city is fairly close to real-world Location Kansas City. However, the accurate distance between Seattle and Kansas City is over 2900 km or 1800 miles.

Season 7, “Rayo de Luz” episode of The Flash spotlighted these issues. Metahuman Allegra Garcia tried to track her cousin Ultraviolet. While doing so, she showed STAR labs scientist Chester P. Runk a map she had made up of her cousin’s recent crimes. The map was highlighted with the following cities: Metropolis, Opal City, and Central city.
These highlights in the map indicated that Metropolis is to be situated in southeast New York, Opal city in east Illinois, and Central City in Western Missouri. The location of Central City is always consistent with the previous episodes of The Flash. But Opal City’s Location in the Arrowverse has never been confirmed. With City of Tomorrow being modeled on New York, the idea of Metropolis being in New York is new.
Metropolis is usually situated on the other side of Delaware Bay on the opposite of Gotham City. But in Superman and Lois, Metropolis was situated close to Smallville so that their high school football teams played against each other as part of the season game. In reality, it is impossible, As Smallville was in the state of Kansas according to Superman and Lois which is nearly 1450 miles (2334 km) away from New York.
Considering the fact none of the high schools will travel 1000 miles for a game, it makes the plot much more interesting despite the geographic inconsistencies.
