Elementary actor John Lee Miller is the latest actor to join the cast of Season 5 of The Crown, as UK Prime Minister John Major. The Crown follows the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and all the scandals that followed her reign. Season 4 of The Crown spanned from 1979 to the early 1990s.
The main focus of the season was Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s early relationship leading to their fairytale wedding and a glimpse of the first cracks in their marriage.
Season 5 of The Crown is all set to introduce a new set of cast members including Imelda Staunton as the Queen, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana. The British prime minister also plays a central role in The Crown as the show tries to depict the relationship between the Crown and the Parliament.
In Season 4, Gilian Anderson played the role of Margeret Thatcher who was shown as often being at odds with the Queen on certain policies. Season 5 is all set to bring in the new Prime Minister.
Netflix recently announced through Twitter that John Lee Miller has joined the ensemble of The Crown as Prime Minister John Major. Miller. Miller is known for his role as Sherlock Holmes in the CBS modern-day rendition of Sherlock Holmes called Elementary. Miller’s filmography includes successful films such as Trainspotting (1996) and Hackers (1995).

Netflix announced the newest addition, without revealing anything else about the role. However, viewers can find out information about the character from history. John Major held the office of Prime Minister for a very short tenure of seven years, from 1990 until his resignation in 1997.
Miller’s character might have had a short stint but he will be expected to fill the large shoes that Gillian Anderson left with her performance as Margaret Thatcher. Anderson’s work in Season 4 of The Crown won her a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild awards.
As the series is coming to a conclusion, there will be much and more to be covered. Major’s tenure may not have been long or that impactful, but the show is at a pivotal moment. Season 5 being the last season will dramatize some of the most scandalous and shocking events of the royal family which would include the crumbling of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage.
The show will follow the end of their relationship that led to their eventual divorce. Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in 1997 which changed the monarchy forever. All these events will make up for an exciting final season of The Crown.
