Suicide Squad 2 Updates: James Gunn’s Suicide Squad has just been released and we all came to know that Starro is the antagonist of the film. James Gunn explains why he chose Starro as the villain and reveals how much he was terrified by Starro as a young boy.
The Suicide Squad Aka Task Force X is sent on a mission to Corto Maltese island to uncover the plans for operation starfish. The DC comic followers would have guessed the antagonist of this film, and the trailer also has revealed that Starro would appear in the film. The Starfish giant was created by Gardener Fox and Mike Sekowsky and first debuted in The Brave and the Bold #28.
The villain’s first appearance in DC comic saga was Justice League as a primary villain to the team consisting of Wonder Woman, Aqua man, The Flash, Green Lantern, and the Martian Manhunter. Starro, who goes by Starro the Conqueror, is an exotic alien species that resembles a starfish and has an eye in the center.
It duplicates by giving out the spores of itself that will stick onto a person’s face and feeds on their consciousness. Starro has been featured in the live-action adaptation of some DC comics like Batman Beyond, Young Justice, and Powerless.

James Gunn has given Starro his big-screen debut as a villain in Suicide Squad. James Gunn wanted a major DC villain that many wouldn’t expect to see on the big screen and he came up with Starro. As a kid, James Gunn feared the character especially citing the cover of Justice League #190. In which we can see Starro on the face of Superman and other Justice League members.
When it comes to directing with exotic alien species, James Gunn is not new to this, as he has done the same with his 2006 film, Slither. He has also managed to mine and put together most of the absurd marvel characters into a single film called, Guardians of the Galaxy and he has done the same with the Suicide Squad. To our surprise, Starro has fitted well in James Gunn’s mad team of Suicide Squad.
Exotic alien species like Starro may seem absurd to include in big-budget feature films, even for Shazam. Starro was originally featured in Justice League, but Zack Snyder opted for new Gods like Darkseid and Steppenwolf for Justice League.
As Warner Bros. Too not interested in including Starro in Justice League, it would have been impossible for Starro to be seen on the big screen if it is not for James Gunn’s Justice League.
