Peter Capaldi Updates: Peter Capaldi compares working on Doctor Who to working on The Suicide Squad. In James Gunn’s version of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, Capaldi portrays The Thinker. The thinker is a moniker given to a number of characters in DC comics that possess a range of abilities, most of which revolve around telekinesis, mind control, and a high level of intelligence.
From 2013 to 2017, Capaldi played the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who with Jenna Coleman’s Clara Oswald, Pearl Mackie’s Bill Potts, and Matt Lucas’ alien Nardole.
He had previously featured as Lobus Caecilius opposite David Tennant’s Doctor in the 2008 episode “The Fire of Pompeii,” as well as in the 2009 spinoff Torchwood: Children of Earth as civil servant John Frobisher. In 1995, he was invited to audition for the part of the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 television film; the role was finally given to Paul McGann.
In Doctor Who, Capaldi compared fighting aliens to fighting gigantic ones like Starro in The Suicide Squad. Everything was different “because it was so much bigger,” Capaldi observed. He also mentioned that money was a significant factor, noting that props and costumes on Doctor Who tended to go apart, but in a high-budget Hollywood picture like The Suicide Squad, props and costumes tended to last longer “In real life, everyone looks as good as they do in movies. Safety pins weren’t used to keep them all together “.
