Margot Robbie Wants Harley Quinn to Date New Guys In the DCEU

Margot Robbie Updates: After her participation in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie expresses her wish to see Harley Quinn date new gentlemen in the DC Extended Universe. The fan-favorite character initially appeared in the DC universe as a sidekick to the Joker in Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s Batman: The Animated Series, but her popularity skyrocketed and carried over into the pages of the comics.
She has explored both her evil and antihero sides in the comics, forming the Gotham City Sirens alongside Poison Ivy and Catwoman and being a member of Task Force X, commonly known as the Suicide Squad.
Harley will eventually make her big-screen premiere with Robbie’s performance in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, after making her live-action debut in the short-lived Birds of Prey series and a cameo appearance in The CW’s Arrow.
Despite the film’s mixed reviews, Robbie’s depiction of the Joker-crazed murderer was acclaimed by reviewers and fans alike, and a number of projects centered on the character were developed, including the well-received Birds of Prey picture. While several of the intended films are still in production or have been canceled, Robbie is optimistic about the character’s future and has a specific perspective in mind to better explore.

Robbie expressed her desire to see Harley Quinn start dating new people — or a specific famous villain — in the DCEU following The Suicide Squad in an interview with ComicBook.com about the next film. Robbie teased that Gunn’s title gives a better examination of Harley’s romantic life, which she says she is “actually pretty involved in,” while keeping her mouth shut about what the new picture entails.
With Jared Leto’s future as the Joker in the DCEU looking increasingly bleak, the door is wide open for storytellers to properly explore Harley Quinn’s romantic side. Though Ayer’s picture hinted at her desire to break away from the Joker, Christina Hodson and Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey made a considerably better job of emphasizing the poison of the two’s relationship and how much better off she is without him.
As much as Robbie and fans have hoped to see Harley eventually team up with Poison Ivy and have a romance, any progress on that front would be a welcome development for the character.
Previous teasers for The Suicide Squad, as well as remarks from Robbie and Gunn, have hinted that Harley will romance someone new in the film. Though it appears to be part of her mission on the island of Corto Maltese, it may be another step forward for the heroine who first appeared in Birds of Prey. Bit fans will have to wait a while for word on Robbie’s future in the DCEU, her most recent film, The Suicide Squad, will be released next week in cinemas and on HBO Max.
