Aquaman 2 Producer Responds To Petition For Amber Heard’s Removal As Mera

Aquaman 2 Updates: Aquaman producer Peter Safran recently responded to the petition going around for the removal of Amber Heard as Mera.

The DC Extended Universe has a lot of upcoming projects currently in production. Among those projects is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom which will be directed by James Wan and will see the return of Jason Momoa in the titular role. While the fans of Aquaman and the DC Universe are excited to see the sequel, there has been some controversy surrounding actress Amber Heard who plays the role of Mera in the film.

There has been a petition going around for the removal of Heard from the Aquaman sequel. Heard has been in the headlines quite frequently for a couple of years because of her legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Following the legal suit, Depp was fired from some major film franchises. Now some moviegoers have started this petition for Heard to be met with the same judgment.

However, in a recent statement, Aquaman producer Peter Safran clarified their stance on the petition. He said that the team would not be reacting to fan pressure and would do whatever is best for the film. He confirmed that James Wan would be directing the film starring Jason Momoa and Amber Heard.

He admitted that he is aware of the petition and whatever is happening in the Twitter-verse but that doesn’t mean that they would have to react to it and come under fan pressure. The team would be doing what’s best for the film.

Now there is no doubt that Amber Heard would return as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The James Wan-directed film will see the return of the original cast and a few newcomers. Peter Safran’s statement should be enough to clear all the chatter and rumors going about Mera. Some fans even made fan art imagining Emilia Clarke as Mera and it has been revolving around the internet but it seems that it would not be an eventuality.

The talks of removing Amber Heard from the Aquaman sequel started when Johnny Depp was fired from the role of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. Depp and Heard’s legal battle took a turn when a recording surfaced which evidently portrays Heard’s abusive nature towards Depp.

The petition to remove Heard was organized by moviegoers who believed that Heard should be met with the same justice as Depp. The petition managed to collect more than a million signatures. However, Heard’s team kept insisting that the actress would star as Mera in Aquaman 2, which has now been confirmed.

There isn’t much known about the sequel but fans are eager to hang on to any scrap of information. It would be interesting to see which fan theories and rumors come true. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release on December 16, 2022. With James Wan back behind the camera, it is easy to say that the wait will be worth it.
