Resident Evil 3 Updates: Ellie, Joel, and Abby from The Last of Us Part 2 will be able to join the action in Racoon City thanks to new modifications for Resident Evil 3 Remake. Both the Resident Evil 3 remake and The Last of Us Part 2 were released in 2020 to mixed reviews.

While The Last of Us Part 2 has been the most awarded videogame in history, the Resident Evil 3 Remake has not been as successful. Despite its lack of economic or critical success, the Resident Evil 3 Remake has sold over 3 million copies worldwide since its debut.

Even lacking the emotional gravitas and lengthy playtime of The Last of Us Part 2, the tale of Jill and Carlos as they frantically strive to avoid Nemesis has proved interesting enough for those hoping for a contemporary Resident Evil experience.

Despite the fact that both Remake and The Last of Us Part 2 feature zombies and virus outbreaks, making them a natural fit for a crossover, it has taken until now for the games to be brought together in some form.

Gamer’s Little Playground has featured a number of new DarknessValtier modifications on YouTube. Jill Valentine, Carlos Oliveira, and Nikolai Zinoviev are replaced with Ellie, Joel, and Abby from The Last of Us Part 2 in the modifications.

Switching the characters around like this will finally give the Remake some replayability, which has been a major flaw in the game. These mods are available from NexusMods, and you can see a video of them in action below.

While this The Last of Us Part 2 x Remake hack is funny, it is also quite disorienting. The character’s skins have all been changed with a mostly realistic reimagining of the three characters from The Last of Us Part 2, however, the voices have not been altered (understandably).

Due to the different genders and accents of these two characters, this is most evident in the Abby / Nicholai model swap. This audio “problem” isn’t uncommon for a mod. A recent mod that allowed players to transfer Joel into Ellie’s position in The Last of Us Part 2 yielded similar effects. Despite the aesthetic makeover, Ellie’s voice actress Ashley Johnson continued to portray Joel in this scenario.

Mods are a pleasant addition to gameplay, whether for The Last of Us Part 2 or any other game, regardless of these minor nuances. For those still grieving over Joel’s death in The Last of Us Part 2, seeing him alive again in the Resident Evil 3 Remake thanks to this latest update will be a comforting sight.
