Zack Snyder Didn’t Think Army of the Dead Would Be As Big As It Is

Published by

Zack Snyder Updates: Following his work on Justice League, Zack Snyder revealed that he was not prepared for the surge of positive reception that Netflix’s Army of The Dead received.

Director Zack Snyder expressed that he had no clue that his Netflix movie Army of the Dead would become the huge hit that it came to be. After working on his much-awaited film Justice League: Snyder’s Cut, Zack Snyder’s production company partnered with Netflix to make Army of the Dead which is a sequel to his 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead. Snyder’s production company, The Stone Quarry, also consists of Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller. Army of the Dead became one of the most streamed Netflix movies of all time.

Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista as a mercenary who is tasked to retrieve $200 million left under a casino in a zombie-ridden Las Vegas. Therefore, he gathers a motley crew to help him in the task.

Snyder’s film builds upon a plot that is already interesting by introducing concepts like undead animals, alpha zombies and even hints at the possibility of robot zombies. The film did great with the audience influencing Snyder and his production team to sign a two-year first-look film deal with Netflix.

The prequel to the film, Army of Thieves is already in the works. The film will focus on the group’s safecracker Ludwig Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer). The film will be directed by Schweighöfer and will be produced by The Stone Quarry.

What Zack Snyder Shared About Army of the Dead?

ScreenRant

Netflix hosted a virtual panel for Army of Thieves as a part of Comic-Con@Home2021. During the panel, producers Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller were asked if they anticipated the immense success that Army of the Dead saw. Snyder replied that he had not thought that the film would become so hugely successful.

He said that when starting on the film, he was excited and thought that they could make it well and into something that the audience would enjoy but none of them anticipated how big the success would be. He added that its success had been very exciting.

Deborah Snyder went on to add Zack’s answer and said that they were planning to create something that was wholly original after working in their own canon. They had pitched a lot of ideas to Netflix which got immediately approved including a horror anime series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas.

Army of the Dead will also have a sequel apart from the prequel Army of Thieves. However, Zack Snyder’s next project is not related to Netflix but rather a sci-fi adventure called Rebel Moon.

Zack Snyder is probably one of the most talked-about directors of contemporary cinema. While his 4 hour cut of Justice League may not have received a theatrical release yet, but the film was well-received on HBO Max. While there is talk of the restoration of DC’s SnyderVerse, Zack Snyder has found acceptance in Netflix. The immense success of Army of the Dead has only proved to solidify the deal.
