James Gunn Confirms Filming Has Wrapped on Season 1 of ‘Peacemaker’ HBO Max Series

Published by

James Gunn Updates: Although James Gunn’s highly anticipated DC picture The Suicide Squad is still a month away, the first season of the HBO Max spinoff series Peacemaker has already concluded filming. The announcement was made via Gunn’s Twitter account, demonstrating once again that the filmmaker is one of the most productive individuals on the globe.

Gunn’s tweet commemorates the completion of Peacemaker’s eight-episode season after 131 days of filming, a difficult timeline for a blockbuster TV show. Gunn also states in the tweet that the pitch for the Peacemaker spinoff happened “less than a year ago,” which is another astounding statistic indicating how quickly the series went from pitching to production.

John Cena will play the title vigilante, one of the members of Gunn’s version of The Suicide Squad in Peacemaker. The forthcoming film will not address David Ayers’ 2016 film Suicide Squad, instead of forging its own creative route without regard for chronology. Even if The Suicide Squad does not have a direct connection to other DC films, the rapid development of Peacemaker indicates that WarnerMedia is certainly confident in the film’s success, or at the very least Cena’s appeal.

What James Gunn Share About Peacemaker?

The peacemaker also stars Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black), Steve Agee (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), Robert Patrick, and Freddie Stroma, in addition to Cena (Harry Potter). Gunn recently disclosed the roster of directors for Peacemaker, and the director will direct five of the eight episodes in the first season.

Three additional directors have been brought on board to handle the remaining episodes. In addition to directing, Gunn served as the series’ major writer, and while he has been quite forthcoming about the production process of Peacemaker, the plot of the series remains mostly unknown.

According to Collider, the three remaining episodes will be helmed by Jody Hill (Superbad), Brad Anderson (Titans), and Rosemary Rodriguez (Jessica Jones).

On August 6, The Suicide Squad will be released in theatres and on HBO Max. The film will have early preview screenings in the United States on August 5. We still don’t know when Peacemaker will be available on HBO Max beyond “January 2022,” but we should find out as soon as The Suicide Squad arrives. Check out Gunn’s original tweet down below.
