RDR2: How Old Each Van der Linde Gang Member Was When They Died

Red Dead Redemption 2 Updates: In Red Dead Redemption, the Van der Linde gang is full of noteworthy individuals that met tragic deaths. Here are the known ages of each when they died.

The Van der Linde gang is well-known for wreaking mayhem throughout Red Dead Redemption 2. The gang, led by Dutch Van der Linde and Hosea Matthews, had a nearly two-decade run of duping villagers across the American Frontier.

Over time, the gang grew to include numerous more members who shared Dutch’s yearning for independence and the urge to live outside of society’s constraints.

But such a life is not without danger. Anyone who has played Red Dead Redemption 2 will recall that the majority of those characters were either dead or dispersed to the wind by the time the credits rolled.

While not every member of RDR2’s Van der Linde gang died young, the majority of them did so violently. Whether it was being gunned down by a gang of cops or succumbing to TB, the Van der Linde had a habit of dying in dramatic fashion.

Unfortunately, Rockstar Games hasn’t released details on when many of the game’s minor characters were born, making it impossible to determine how old they were when they died. Characters from Red Dead Redemption 2 such as Kieran Duffy, Molly O’Shea, and the Callander brothers just didn’t get enough screen time to reveal their birth year. It’s not only the lesser characters that have no idea when they were born.

RDR2 gang members including Susan Grimshaw, Karen Jones, and Sean MacGuire were more than minor characters, although their ages of death remain unknown. The same can be said about Javier Escuella, who played a significant part in both the first Red Dead Redemption and its sequel.

When Each Gang Member Died in Red Dead Redemption 2

The youngest of the Red Dead Redemption characters given birth date is Lenny Summers, whom gamers will undoubtedly remember from his infamous drunken night with Arthur Morgan. At the age of 19, Lenny is killed down during the Saint-Denis bank heist.

This information is confirmed by a newspaper, which players may read after completing the mission. Morgan is the second documented youngest death of a Van der Linde gang member. No of what decisions players make, the main character of Red Dead Redemption 2 dies at the early age of 36. During his first mission in RDR2, he confirms his birthday by speaking with Hammish Sinclair.

Following them are John and Abigail Marston. John Marston dies at the conclusion of the first Red Dead Redemption in 1911, but Abigail lives until 1914. This brings them to 38 and 37, respectively.

Their birthdates are known since players may look at their tombstones when playing as Jack Marston in the epilogue of the first game. Speaking of John, two of the guys he kills in the series are the gang’s next youngest members when they die.

Micah Bell was 47 when he was slain by John and Dutch at Beecher’s Hope, and Bill Williamson was 45 when John tracked him down to Nuevo Paraiso. The official Game of the Year strategy guide for Red Dead Redemption confirms Bill’s age, while Micah’s age may be discovered via an in-game newspaper in RDR2.

Hosea Matthews and Dutch Van der Linde died at around the same age. The two guys founded the gang together and will be 55 and 56 years old when they die. Hosea’s age, like Lenny and Micah’s, is learned through a newspaper, but Dutch’s age is revealed in the original Red Dead Redemption official strategy guide.

Meanwhile, at the time of their deaths, Uncle and Leopold Strauss were the (confirmed) oldest members of the group. Uncle is approximately 62 years old when he dies attempting to defend John from the Marston Ranch raid at the conclusion of Red Dead Redemption, while Strauss is around 61 years old when he dies at the hands of Pinkertons in RDR2.

Their actual ages are impossible to ascertain because the characters do not provide specific information. Uncle claims he was born between 1949 with the fall of Rome, but Strauss’s birthdate is only hinted at the camp conversation.

At the end of Red Dead Redemption, several characters from RDR2’s Van der Linde gang are still alive and might appear in future games. Charles Smith and Sadie Adler are among those on the list. Charles departs for Canada to establish a family, while Sadie is likely to travel to South America.

Given the series’ proclivity for transporting players to new places, seeing what they’re both up to might be a big part of the plot of a new Red Dead Redemption game.
