Mal’s pursuit of Alina in Shadow and Bone echoes an iconic Aragorn incident in Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings’ impact may be detected in everything from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones. Though Shadow and Bone is a unique novel, one scene, in particular, suggests that there may be some influence there as well.
