Rick and Morty Season 5: Forget The Vindicators did Scary Terry Deserves a Spinoff

Rick and Morty Season 5 Updates: Since Rick and Morty have debuted, one of the strengths of the series has reimagined the popular culture in a twisted but refreshing way, with the premise itself who is feeling like a darker version of Back to the Future. The show has been spoofed The Purge, Jurassic Park, and many more. It has also taken on the now common task of poking fun at the genre of the superhero with The Vindicators, and that these heroes are getting a spin-off of the short series;  however there is going to be another satirical character that would deserve the limelight more than them: Scary Terry.

Rick and Morty Season 5 Updates

It was introduced in Season 1, Episode 2, “Lawnmower Dog,” Scary Terry is a clear spoof of Freddy Krueger of A Nightmare on Elm Street from the striped sweater to the finger knives to the fedora. He has also pursued his prey in their dreams, with his base of the operation of being a boiler room just like Freddy. The episode has also established that Terry has a wife, kid, and suburban home as well as some of the deep-seated insecurities.

While he has only one appearance, he is still one of the strongest pop culture references in Rick and Morty which is clearly establishing early on that any entertainment references made will be dark, crude, and unlike other spoofs which are seen in mainstream media before. Because of this, the making of a spin-off has focused on  The Vindicators which does not fit the bill on Adult Swim.

A one-off episode was being able to spoof intergalactic superhero teams just like the Guardians of the Galaxy but is dedicating a whole series to The Vindicators would feel like it has beaten a dead horse. There are many television and film properties that have made fun of or reexamine the genre of the superhero, and this would go back over the decade with movies like Hancock and Kick-Ass.
