The country Yara seems stuck in the past and that makes sense too. A revolution 50 years before the setting of Far Cry 6 cut off the land from the rest of the world.
It is visible in the presence of vintage cars and the makeshift items the Yaran people use. There are also many abandoned holiday sites that show the struggle of the people against their dictator, Anton Castillo.

When doing research for the game, developers at Ubisoft went to Cuba to know about their culture. The country of Yara is a fictional one but much of its features and setting are inspired by the real world.
