Mare of Easttown Season 2: Will Kate Winslet Return For Another Case or Not?

Published by

Mare of Easttown Season 2 Updates: HBO has an epic collection of zeitgeist-capturing crime dramas. And even then, HBO doesn’t miss out on presenting more of the compelling dramas every couple of months.

Recently, an excellent drama series arrived, with the name Mare of Easttown. The drama has Kate Winslet in its cast, she is a small-town Pennsylvania detective and has an affinity for Wawa hoagies. In the seventh and the last episode, the drama ended up the story superbly.

Erin McMenamin’s murder case has now been wrapped up definitively. And finally, Mare and her community have begun the process of trying to recover from the trauma.

The story ended up nicely though. Such was the ending that there seems to be no reason for any future seasons in the show. Still, it’s worth examining whether there’s a possibility of this show coming back, and if we would see Winslet again.

We need to look at the fact whether it is a miniseries or something else. For example, when Stephen King’s adaptation The Outsider premiered on HBO, initially it was described as only a limited series. On the other hand, the representatives from the network clarified that actually it was intended to be categorized as a drama. And this meant there was some potential in the series for some future seasons. But in the end, The Outsider ended up as a limited series, since HBO decided not to renew it for a season 2. Let’s see how it goes though for Mare of Easttown.

In the latter’s case though, things seem to be a bit different. The network here seems to be highly confident regarding the fact that it’s not a traditional drama. The HBO’s press release announcing Mare of Easttown’s release date referred it to be a ‘limited series’.

Additionally, HBO has started to develop a recent track record of letting limited series do their thing, then sign off without being pressured into further sequels. In the case of Watchmen, the network made it clear that it would only go forward with new seasons if showrunner Damon Lindelof deemed it necessary. And as of now, there are only two bits of evidence that suggest there may be a second season, and that is the viewers are enjoying it, and even the creator is. We’ll have to see how it all goes.
