In Cruel Summer Episode 7, watchers saw Joy Wallis’ true colors. Previously in 1983 when Kate confronted her mother about seeing Joy kissing Scott, but Joy disagreed it. Rod Wallis (Ben Cain) father of Kate was confused about whom should he trust. He saw Joy slap her daughter, and after that Joy watched Kate pack her bags to run away. And lastly viewers saw that Kate went to help principal Martin Harris'(Blake Lee) house on her own. Kate started crying just because Principal Martin asked her to share the family secret, and Martin took Kate inside.

Now in 1994, Joy hadn’t grown or changed at all he is the same Joy we saw in 1983. She pushed her daughter to appear on The Marsha Bailey Show to paint the Wallis family in a better light. In 1995, Joy only got worse. Kate further disclosed that her mother only sent her the letter calling her a “liar.” At the end of the episode, the watcher saw Derek Turner (Barrett Carnahan) find the chatting between Kate and Ashley Wallis (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut). He rapidly printed that chats and hand over it to Jeanette.
