Rebel Was Cancelled For What Reason?  Fans Were Left Disappointed after Season 2 Cancellation

Published by

Rebel Cancelled: Katey Sagal is voicing out something about ABC’s cancellation of Rebel after just five episodes aired. Fans of ABC’s Rebel have already been left to wonder, “Why was Rebel withdrawn?” following the cancellation of the series by the Disney-owned network. Since the entertainment industry is so competitive, it’s not uncommon for shows to be pushed to the backburner and canceled.

Rebel has recorded 3.2 million overall audiences and then a 0.43 demo score (in Live+Same Day numbers) so far this season, which is slightly lower than A Million Little Things’ Season 3 ratings (3.3 mil/0.5). On Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC, the final five episodes of Rebel will air. Regrettably, it was the situation with ABC’s Rebel, the Disney-owned network canceled the show after just one season.

Why did ABC decide to cancel Rebel?

ABC on Friday has canceled one of five series ‘The freshman Mystery’ from Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff. The legal drama For Life and the black-ish spinoff mixed-ish (both scrapped after two seasons), the veteran family comedy American Housewife, and the Kyra Sedgwick-led freshman sitcom Call Your Mother were among the other series to be canceled.

Nevertheless, on May 14th, after only 5 episodes were aired, ABC declared over Deadline that Rebel would be discontinued after only 1 season. Rebel’s only season will consist of ten episodes and will conclude on June 17th, assuming no gaps between episodes. Rebel claims to be discontinued due to low viewing numbers. Although airing following ABC’s top-rated episode, Grey’s Anatomy, Rebel has failed to attract audiences, as per the Deadline.

Sagal’s words on Rebel Cancelled

In an Instagram post on Monday, Sagal appreciated fans for their unconditional support and expressed, hoped that the show will find a new platform. She acknowledged that the sudden declaration that there will be no Season 2  was shocking and heartbreaking. Adding to this she said that it takes time for things to settle in. Rebel is about the story of a woman who stands up for what she believes in; the show has heart and reason, is hilarious and emotional. The casts are baffled by ABC’s decision. Sagal ended her post by urging viewers to sign a petition to save the show and tell people about it.

Rebel will continue to air on Thursdays on ABC, but the program will be canceled after one season.
