Apple Watch: How to download Spotify songs and listen to them Offline?

Apple Watch Updates: If you wear an Apple Watch and are a Spotify Premium subscriber, the feature you’ve been waiting for is finally here. Right, because on Friday, May 21st you will finally be able to download Spotify playlists, albums, and podcasts to your Watch for offline listening. Ta-da!!

This is big business because for years you could only download music to your Apple Watch for offline listening if you were an Apple Music subscriber. This was a great selling point for runners, for example, as they could leave their iPhone at home and continue to listen to music through their Watch and wireless headphones.

Spotify made a small improvement for Watch users last November: an update was released that allows them to stream music from the Watch without their iPhone being nearby, as long as their Apple Watch is on Wi-Fi or LTE is connected. Most people own the cheapest Watch, and with Wi-Fi alone, it hasn’t changed their experience drastically.

Can I download Spotify Music on my Apple Watch?

From May 2021 the answer is going to be yes. However, there are two limitations:

You must be a Spotify Premium subscriber.
You must be a paying subscriber.

You also need an Apple Watch which is running watch OS 6.0 or later. This means that older models like Series 1 and Series 2 do not have this feature. And lastly, you need to have the latest updated Spotify app on your Watch.

Downloading Spotify Songs, Albums, and Playlists to Watch

Downloading Spotify music to your Apple for offline listening is very easy and can be done on your iPhone or Watch. Before we start, make sure your Watch or iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or LTE. We recommend downloading it when your Watch is connected to Wi-Fi. Otherwise, it will depend on your iPhone’s LTE connection, which will deplete the data.

Note that Spotify is updating its app and is just rolling out this feature. So, if you go to your music and still don’t see the “Download to Apple Watch” option, don’t worry. Take a day or two to make sure your Watch and iPhone are running the latest operating systems.
